Hi there, ive recently brought a 300tdi rotbox non-runner.
To start with it was completely immobilised (Key did nothing), did a standard service, new battery etc.
It finally "remembered they key" and will turn over but will not fire. Ive checked the fuel and it looks and smells okay, the new filter is full of fuel so not airlocked.
After a bit of research ive found that the immobiliser can also affect the "fuel stop solenoid"?
So looked in to getting the spyder bypass, ripped out all of the dash and i cannot find it?
Does anybody have a picture of the solenoid and know which wire id need to run a switched live to and see if i can get it to fire up.
Any and all help will be appreciated!

Is it manual or auto? Later autos don't have a spider in the dash. Did you try loosing off the fuel pipes into the injectors and trying the starter, possibly fuel not getting as far as them? Then work back. If there's no fuel, the solenoid is on the pipe between the fuel feed from the filter to the injector pump, disconnect the wire and run a live from the battery to the terminal.

96' Manual, injecters where my next thought. This is really useful thankyou! Will have a look next weekend when i next get chance to work on it! Thankyou
 
Apply battery voltage to the stop solenoid and try it again, have to remove the wire to stop the engine.

It is on the back of the fuel injection pump and may I think be covered by a cap to prevent thieves interfering with it.

You may need to read this as there are other configurations.
I think yiou may have been fiddling with something quite different!
 
Have you got a picture of the solenoid and know which wire would be the live?
If… you require an ignition switched 12v supply then drop the fusebox cover and in the top right hand area you will see a two wires side by side, one is red/white the other is thicker and yellow this one is live in position two of the ignition switch.
Use a thin wire with a stripped end and wedge it alongside the existing yellow wire connection on the board, then install the new wire following the existing loom above the fuse box into the engine bay.

If the vehicle left the factory with a spider immobiliser and then removed there would have been a 12v supply fitted somewhere otherwise the engine wouldn’t run. 🙁

I think i may of typed abit wrong and confusing.
So i didnt want to mess with the wiring in the engine bay, so i thought about getting the spyder bypass, started stripping the dash and there was no spyder in there, just a nest of radio wires. (Waste of £10 ordering the bypass😂)
So the solenoid is the next shout as the starter is working and does fire if i spray brake cleaner down intake - but dies instantly after. The filter is getting fuel so i know up to that point the lines are not blocked. Fuel looks and smells clean and new filter installed.
Ive had a very quick look tonight, and i cannot see (not had a proper look) where abouts the solenoid is to run a live to it, if im at the front of the engine bay, fuel filter left hand side on bulkhead, and towards me is the throttle body. Where abouts from that position is the solenoid?

For testing just run a wire from the battery positive terminal to the stop solenoid, it should click as you apply the wire, this does not mean it is working, but it is a good start.

My two minutes of Googling shows me where it’s positioned on this bit of kit… an injection pump 🤔 and based on the pt number given in an earlier post.

Took off the 3 pin plug, and replugged in after cleaning, there is a very slight click when plugging in. (Tried 3 times to make sure i wasnt hearing things) what is my next step from here?

Just reread that defender forum and it seems to be right, i have that dds thing, so need to smash that off and install a new solenoid
 
Had to gio away and do stuff.

I expect so as that cover is intended as an anti tamper, its removal have been mentioned in various forums, Ive never seen one before so it looks as you have to be brutal with it.
But first i’d check the electrical function of the solenoid and the wires to it.
 
Out of interest, did you crack open any pipes after the pump to check for diesel?
Yes i cracked them all off and was nothing. Sorry i didnt see this had abit of stuff going on!

This DDS box is a bitch to get off, its hanging on like a wobbly tooth but daylight left me and torches are no good so gonna carry on with it tomorrow
