Thanks all for the replies :D

To clear it up... she's a manual with a non-EDC pump.

I took out the plunger from the stop solenoid as suggested... sure enough I got fuel at the injectors and after a few cranks she fired right up... yippee! :)

Whilst I had the solenoid out I tested it, and it does seem to operate fine, which is odd. Tried putting it back in with the plunger but I got no fuel once again. Very odd!

Any suggestions as to the cause?

Just a quick thought; there wouldn't be any form of immoblisation on a late Defender 300 would there? (Engine code 23L).

There's a multiplug coming from the top of the pump with 3 pins in it, but I'm fairly sure this is EGR related and is redundant.

yes 300's have engine immobiliser 3 wires sounds like EDC

not at pump unless its edc or has cover over solenoid ,wires at the throttle spindle are for throttle pot for egr can be left unplugged, presumed you have 12v at solenoid as car could have cutting feed at spider

It's definitely non EDC. I do have 12v at the solenoid, which has just a single male spade terminal.

Just curious as to why it wasn't letting fuel through even though it seems to operate as it should.

Ah well, I'll find out tomorrow when I fit the new solenoid

some do that ,but if it works with plunger out it should be good with a new one

Yeah... hope so.

Ah well, could have been worse to be honest. The engine's only done 64,000 miles, but has sat in dry storage for at least 3 years, probably more.

the 3 wired for the EGR are on the other end of the pump, attached to the throttle position sensor, not required for running.

it possible the solenoid will work under no load (ie off the pump) but doesn't have enough power to operate whatever it is it operates on the vehicle.

True :)

New solenoid ordered from John Richards last night. I'll just stall it when I want it to stop until it arrives... still got PLENTY to do before I can MOT it anyway.

Does yours cheech? I think not ;) mine is infinitely more awesome than yours on just that basis! :fighting2:

No but it roars like a Tiger tank on steroids and whistles its cock off!
Yours has nearly done enough miles to reach the moon!
