I'm Shure a bigger intercooler would push some more power, but the one I got is suppose to have more flow and cooling fins so it certainly does no harm. The old one was not worth cleaning out because the fins would never be goodGood for you.
I once came across a chap who had fitted an intercooler from a bigger engined vehicle a Renge Rover or summit.
He reckoned it boosted both power and economy. Well he would say that woudln't he.
But the standard intercooler has long been seen as not much cop and a bit of an achilles heel.
Maybe one day I'll be able to get to my 300tdi and do something about mine rather than just cleaning it.
It's aboot the same old truck sound wasn't loud before and I was still able to sell the head,valves and guides being pretty good.Someone posted on this forum that they fitted a gas flow head from turners I think and one of their comments was that the sound levels at idle seemed a lot quieter or less tractor like

Well done! You must be getting a lot more power out of your engine than I did from my standard one. I took my fan off completely and fitted an electric one. which I have only ever had to switch on twice. Even in baking heat in Southwest France. The aircon fans kinda do the biz, did have to switch it one when stuck in traffic in such heat, but went off once back moving again. Carry it around as a spare of course!Well having driven over a hundred miles found I was overheating as speed and on big long hills!
After some head scratching figured the viscose fan coupling wasn't doing its thing.

The bimetallic part is working, so I can only assume there is a lack of silicone fluid inside.
When the bimetallic strip looking like a spring gets to the set temperature it causes a valve to open allowing the silicone fluid to escape by centrifugal force outwardly I to the chamber with the internal fins. This causes the fan to be almost completely driven and keeps things cool, but apparently it's only needed for 10 to 15 % of the time .

But I managed to return it and tried putting bolts drilled and tapped through the whole unit to permanently lock it, and refitting to be Shure this was the cause. Also I was waiting for another new one to arrive, but I had to know this was the cause as it's difficult to check the viscose fan coupling.
The failed new one just spun freely when I stopped to check with a pretty hot motor. So I knew it was also lacking fluid.

I was able to accelerate up to full speed up a steep hill on the duel carriageway and the temp went up very fast, then no further. It also cooled faster.
The new new part arrived and took only 15 mins to fit

It's all working great now and I've driven over 300 miles.
Lol, she does seem fine for power, goes straight to her length in mph, but only did that once to try to get her to overheat, and on a slight incline. My bad, should have said mine's a Disco. But your dogs look very happy as do ours when clipped in just liek yours, on the back seat. But no smoke, apart from a wee puff at startup for a second, and had more to give.
I trundle about at 47 most of the time, which is great for looking over hedges and taking in the beauty of Aberdeenshire. Dogs find her comfy too.View attachment 318852
I suppose the 90 Pick-up will be lighter than other body types, but she's just great fun to drive, and no problem with short journeys blocking dpf's and the like.
I wonder if I can drive her in lezz zones if running on 0 emissions fuel like bio diesel though?
That's what folk with huge cranes are doing in the lez zones according to the news!
