wacko disco V8

New Member
Hi all,

So in a few months time I am going to drive my trusty Discovery 1 1998 3.9l V8i across the empty quarter in Saudi Arabia. The trip will take around 5 days. I will travel as part of a group but other than my companions I will have very little support.

As such I'm trying to work out the best selection of spares to carry. If some things fail I can carry on if others fail I'll be leaving my Land Rover in the desert.

What would you all suggest are the key spares on a well maintained but reasonably old Land Rover?

Many Thanks

Wacko

i would say a toyota lancruiser 80 series and isuzu trooper 3.1d would be the best things to carry :p

good luck!

Did the Sahara and this is what i used, mainly because the champion plugs overheated and killed the ignition, make sure you fit NGK. also suggest if you have kenlowe ditch it as mechanical fan spares you'll get out there easily but replacement electric probably not.

Coil, HT Leads, Plugs, ecu temp sensor, dizzy cap and rotor arm. wheel bearing, hub seal.

what i took but didn't use;

water pump, all water hoses, alternator, dizzy, ecu, shocks, brake cylinder and pads, more wheel bearings a seals, fuel pump. spare wiper blades

also i carry by default

Oils
spare belts
fuel air and oil filters
rad weld
instant gasket
bulbs
snap locks (quick fix use only)
electric cable
vacuum hose
duck tape
cable ties
wd40
a good grease gun

most usefull stuff - duck tape and wd40!
