I guess, re my last post, what would the recommendation be then? Budget won't stretch to anything newer really - about 2012,max,probably.

2011.

I tend to agree but the 4.4's are definitely at the higher end of the price bracket. 3.6 seems to be pretty damn cheap, considering.

I wonder why;).

Had ours 7 1/2 years and no major issues normal services items some suspension bushes, compressor rebuild, Ac expansion valve and a front Prop:) And loads of happy motoring. It’s been from here to theUK and back a couple of times and no problems you can drive them for hours and still want to drive the next morning:D.
Long journeys are a pleasure

Choose your poison;):p:D

Would that be a 2011 4.4 tdv8 per chance? Also, where is 'here'? Difficult to hammer down specs too - presuming the SE has the heated and cooled seats (the two extra dials?) as opposed to just heated with the buttons?

3.6 is a pile of shít.

The 4.4 however is a damn sight better and actually rather robust..
I have both a 2010 3.6 and a 2011 4.4 had them both from 2 years old and so far the 3.6 has been less hassle / and I have spent a lot less on keeping it repaired only thing better on the 4.4 is the gearbox ( 3.6 has been remapped and egr deleted and mapped out )

Hmm
It depends I guess, when I fixed them I saw mainly the TDV8 and M62 I had many 4.4 TD's but those had other issues.

Here is 1600miles to the UK:) over in the eastern block third world:D ( that’s just a lie to keep all the plebs out:))

Ours is Vouge spec has heated/cooled fronts and rear seats (think rear but never sat in the back but know there are the dials;))

Trouble is what’s standard spec + original owners extras;) so they could all be different. We have Piano black wood interior think that was an extra;).

So really it’s research time for you, M did all the research and we collected it from Germany sight unseen on Sat morning and we’re home late Sunday;):D.

What problems have you had?

4.4 TDV8 has a known issue with an oil pipe at the rear of the engine - simple fix, whereas the 3.6 has a potential to lose the turbo(s) and take the engine out when it goes.. No real warning of impending turbo doom...

4.4 TDV8 should be available on late 2009 vehicles and prices are starting to come down.

Budget a couple of grand in first year of ownership as **cking around money (FAM) and you’ll be OK

Are there specific things I should be look at on a 4.4? What about mileage - key things I should check have been done at or above certain mileages? Any other gotchas?
