I acquired my 2a about a month ago. It came from a close family friend. He and his friend have passed the Landy back and forth for the last 12 years.




I’ll be putting it on a galvanised chassis. The bulkhead looks ok, though it’s had a few wonky looking repairs. So I plan on stripping it back to bare metal and trying to tidy it up.

The engine (2 1/4 petrol) runs well..it had a misfire and was running rich. I rebuilt the carb and lapped both sides of the body. This seamed to cure it but not completely. I found that the accelerator pump was sticking, and looking at the state of it someone had some pliers around it before. The spring was kipped over, thus binding on the bore. I wanted to get the engine running right before I pulled it out.

Here you can see the accelerator pump stuck. And the damage to the end of it implies it’s been jammed in before!

Could someone please advise me on how to load pictures on to here as I can’t seem to do it
 
I’ve started to take the tub off the back, and the galvanised chassis is ordered! Someone has gone a little bit mad with the body filler, filling a lot of the panel gaps/seams. The rear sections of the sill were full of the stuff!

Remarkably, the panels are all pretty bloody straight under all the filler! So I think I’ll be knocking it all out. The plan was originally to leave the bodywork as is. I like a Landy that tells a story. I can appreciate nice shiny paint work etc but it’s not my thing! But I think with the work to the panels I may have to concider painting it.

The tub is all loose now..everything came off pretty easily. Only 2 bolts I had to take the grinder to. So hopefully tonight I will get it lifted off. I will post more updates this eve!

You’re right there! It’ll get done.. I think the main thing with restoration is to take your time. It’s all in the preparation
 
As for filler I’ve not used any on my panels. I’ve hit all the dents out the best I can and the rest can stay.

Norrie, I won’t be putting any filler back in it!! I dont. Agree with the stuff. I’d rather see an honest vehicle than one full of filler. The stuff goes against the grain for me. Especially on a Land Rover!
 
The body is off. 3 of us managed it very easily. The back of the wiring loom was a mess. Who ever fitted the towing electrics did a rum job! Anyway; I’ll sort that when I come to put it back together!

The top of the chassis is in pretty rough condition too. Plenty of holes to be found all around the place.

The only shot I took of the chassis. All very thin and plenty of rough patches to be found!

Wrapped up for the night. Going to invest in some bungee straps. The blue nylon rope is crap! It wanted to unwind before I got time to singe the end.

That’s all for this eve. Tha lass is coming to stay for the weekend so might not get much time on the landy. Going to work towards getting to the bulkhead and start work on that first! The more I look at it the more I see.
 
Nowt done on the Landy tonight. But I did get time to throw a bench together at work today and sort the garage. I’ve been meaning to do it ever since I moved in 3 years ago. But unfortunately doing the house up took priority.

Anyway, it’s a temporary permanent measure I think!

Afternoon! Well, I’m managing to get an afternoon of work in on the Landy. Just taking sills off, floors out. Seat box etc! Discovering quite a bit of damage to the ally pannels. What do people tend to do to repair them? Any threads on it? I’m used to working with steel..and I can weld and grind that quite happily! Any input is welcome. I’ll post more pics of it falling to bits this eve!

You can get seatbox ends from YRM that pop rivet in and fit well. https://yrmit.co.uk/product-category/series-2-3-swb/seat-box-series-2-3-swb/
 
So, not a geat deal done this afternoon. But better than nothing! Seat box is out, floors, tunnel, sills and windscreen all removed. The sill-bulkhead bolts on the o/s snapped the plate behind. So I had to cut them. The only way I could get in was to put a slit in the sill itself. But it’ll weld up!

No problem Joe they do quite a few repair panels and any i've used have been easy to fit and fit well they have detailed instructions for fitting their repair panels on website. Great Thread will be following your progress

So I see mate. They look really good! I think I’ll be ordering a fair bit from them. Really handy to know about. Also, I see they do lots of stainless fixing kits...I’ll be sure to use those!

Gotta agree. I've used YRM a lot recently on my 90, and can vouch for the good quality and good fit. For instance, a bulkhead repair piece, an A-pillar with foot, footwell and floor pan all slotted together and only needed holding with one pin (actually a 3/4 socket ratchet in the hole) to check fit then didn't warp when welding, despite my best efforts to screw it up!
