OK I'll be swapping my drum brake 10 spline rear axle for a 24 spline one from a disco, my question is how do I remove the flange when there is that 'sticking out bit' in the middle of it and I don't currently own a puller...

I've purchased one of these for fitting it..

LAND ROVER DEFENDER - Rear Output Flange Kit (STC3433) | eBay

Do I need owt else? They seem to have been recently rebuilt and are in good condition.

Cheers me duck:)

Angle grinder .. you don't need the 3-prong flange anymore .. and neither does anyone on ebay!! ;)

I cut lengthwise between two of the prongs. It's about 6mm ish thick on the collar to get to where the inner nut/thread is that holds the flange on. Just go steady and keep an eye on how deep you're cutting, checking that you're not through and into the nut and thread.I didn't even bother trying to remove the guide. Once you've got a nice slot and can see the nut, then whack it off with a lump 'ammer and cold chisel.

That's what we did and as it happened we fitted the new extention flange kit yesterday before i went to work ready for swapping the axles over tomorrow :)

The spigot has got a locking sealant on it, heat it up to break the seal then use a bolt down the threaded centre, as you tighten the bolt it will push the centre spigot off

DO NOT HEAT IT UP !!!

You'll #### the pinion bearings

If you heat the spigot with a blowtorch it won't tanker enough heat to damage the seal never mind the bearings, you don't near that much heat, you'll put enough heat with a angle grinder anyway
