If 220 hp is not realistic,
what is the highest rolling road output someone has reached ?

Doing a new 300tdi build with turner preformance head,
Will ad a vnt turbo, large IC an larger allu rad.

Will push it as long as EGT temp stays under safe limits

get a damn big inter cooler, a auxiliary engine oil cooler and a darn big radiator and a big exhaust

+1, No point chasing silly power out of a tdi, because as above how long is it safe for?
Fit a proper engine :behindsofa:

Time wil tel i think ;) ,

But when you keep your egt at a safe limit ,
en boost level reasonable, this would be just fine.

I drove my 200000 miles 200 tdi on 24 psi and pump turnd open,
for 40000 miles without a problem.

- proper engine, i'm from belgium , engine conversions arn't allowd here,
2.5 tdi - 200tdi - 300tdi are fine, but v8 or other manufacturer engine
are impossible to make road legal ;)

So an upgraded 300 tdi in a 87 base is my best option

Aye, it was said in jest, I know most people don't want to mess about fitting silly engines like some
I Also didn't realise you was in Belgium.
I've had 200/300/td5's and to be fair they're fine, it's a lr at the end of the day, it doesn't need to be like a rocket.
But a little tweak can make a massive difference and well worth doing.

Put it this way ive ghost de catted, de egr'd and changed the turbo on a mates TD5 the other day without any chipping its faster than any tdi ive been in. Theres so many better engines out there than a tdi for alot less build up cost to get relative power

Very true, but not everyone has the knowhow/tools/time to make other engines work.
So if they've got a tdi they stick with it kinda thing.

Well ive i had the choice i should go for a v8 diesel
But not an option.

I did drive with a 50th v8 once and i wasn't that impressed.
Sounds nice and well but was expexting more power.

And i'm looking for 4 seats at least ,
A 50th v8 4 seater would cost me 1500 pounds road tax a year .

Think a well tuned 300 pulls almost the same,
And als planning to drive it a lot ,
So v8 isn't a good decision as i know it does 20l/ 100km

But if it was for a toy ,
Ill take the v8 !

Mine's slightly rapid considering it's almost 3 ton.

Her's one for you boffins out there...

My mate's got a 200 90... he's had a good old fiddle with it, pump opened up, boost pin fitted and boost around the 15/16psi, de-cat and a small silencer in line before it comes out behind the passenger door...

When he comes past me floggin it at night, the exhaust is glowing red (at the outlet), so is the exhaust gas, giving it a type of bunsen burner look!! :flame:

Looks cool, and it's been like that for a fair few miles, but will that cause him problems in the long run??

Personally, I quite enjoy the sight of an exhaust glowing. It beats the fashionable cruising lights that some people have. My brother's Austin 7 Special had a tubular exhaust manifold which could be induced to glow brightly under hard acceleration. And that was with a tiny sidevalve engine. I don't know what the implications are for the life expectancy of a 200tdi but if your friend enjoys doing engine overhauls and rebores etc. I'm sure it will be win-win all round. The 200 tdi is in a fairly soft state of tune as standard so a few extra horsepower won't kill it too quickly.

it will most likely kill the turbo , or pistons , and most likely not in a very long run :(
