I've fitted a few towbars for clients, I'd recommend fitting a car specific setup. I've called pjones before and they are pretty good with these sets. Most are plug and play, just read the instructions carefully. If there are canbus connections as well.
Modern vehicles need to know if a trailer is onboard so cooling and braking can be adjusted if needed so a specific kit is advised. Pricey but less hassle if you also have reverse sensors.
