okai so ive just got my self a 200tdi disco 3 door since my 300tdi blew up yet again.

so as you've all guessed ive got problems already it is getting really hot over short distance i have :

flushed out rad
all the hoses
checked thermostat to find there wasn't one
i did a full oil change just in case

any other things i should check

Is the engine actually overheating or is it just the gauge?

200's aren't prone to overheating under normal running about, quite the opposite in fact:)

Well it first happened noticed it firat overheating when i did a 30 mile journey averaging 50 mph once the gauge started going up it didnt stop umt i released my foot from accelarator and it stayed where it was and didnt go down till i swithed engine off and let it cool down

Could be gauge, could be the radiator goosed

Only way is to check the temp under the bonnet with something, if you can release the header tank cap (don't take it off) and water doesn't come spurting out under pressure then it aint hot:)

i have been tinkering with it all day and i have changed the header tank as it was a series header tank to a proper disco one topped everything back up i still had one of those new bleed type and run it up left it awhile then opened the bleed screw on the top and realed all the air that came out then done it back up i did 2 more times to check i then went for a drive in it and all seemed fine and when i got back home the temp was 3/4 of the way up and the oil light was flashing with a loud click from the passenger side i checked it and it was a relay thats making the clicking noise..
i will remove this relay and see if i have one from my 300 tdi that still sitting out side
