Took it for a spin..

The oil light is still coming on at idle.. Bollox :( Its no better despite doing all the work. I am really ****ed off
underneath cam gallery it feeds everything you should have seen them when doing bearings,do you know what pressure is ,cam bearings are like

I might of seen it, but I don't know what I am looking for. I tried googling oil squirt, but got no info.
I have no Idea what the cam bearings are like. Thats more major work to get into them, isn't it..?
I assume the pressure is the same as it was in the first post on here as the oil light is still coming on the same as before. I can go and get the oil pressure checked it it will help..

I'm very sorry to hear that mate, you did some great work there so you have a bloody right to be ****ed off!!

Thanks for that chap :)
Trouble is, I ain't a mechanic.
I did do this thing at school in the early 80's called STEP Schools, traffic, education project (anyone remember it..?). Its was all about learning to drive and maintain a car or bike etc.
I loved it and is one of the very few things I learnt at secondary school that I remember. We used to ride motorbikes down the woods and on the playground as well as learn how engines work n all that.
I have done bits n bobs on all my cars over the years, but its the first time I have stripped an engine down this much and I feel out of my league..

Awwww no way. Feel really bad for you mate :(

So what's the prognosis then?

Is there more wear than expected or it is just that there is wear elsewhere??

So what's the prognosis then?

Get a Peugeot :D

Cheers chap, Its either something I did wrong, or wear elsewhere.
I think I am gonna save up n get me another engine, so I can have one on the bench to work on, and one in the disco, so I have more time to sort it all out.

Problem is the 200s are not coming in cheap and plentiful anymore! :(

Best of luck anyway pal.

What about 300??

Plenty of ****ing about changing mounts though...

I reckon the people I bought the car off, never looked after it at all..
Look at the state of the gearbox oil sump magnet..

001-6.jpg

The filter was just as bad, with shards of metal in there..
The oil was thick and black that came out.
I refilled it with new oil and some molyslip, but its an awful gearbox..

I still got to do the transfer box oil and the dif oils, not to mention the cam belt, but I am very low on money at the mo...
I really should of scrapped this car a long time ago, but I have invested too much time n money in it to give up now.

Thanks for all the input guys.. Food for thought.. :)

Same as mine was in the gearbox. Transfer is supposed to be 30k intervals

squirt is etc6531 x2 etc6532 x 2 and bolt which has spring valve in so only opens when pressure is higher etc5592

Low pressure light doesn't always mean low pressure inside the engine due to wear. As its at idle could it be blocked galleries somewhere else. I have had experience where poor servicing had lead to spray bars or oil galleries being clogged up meaning that as the engine idles and naturally has lower pressure, this pressure is not enough to push through the blocked galleries. A little like arteries in the body. Eventually this will cause your engine a heart attack.

When changing the oil I always run through a cleaner to make sure the engine stays clear inside.

Have you tried something like this?

Would be a shame to swop engines as you have invested in the weak area already.

Would love to know why they do this mine dose exactly the same no noise from bearings changed pressure switch twice serviced was told about some oil pump seal but havnt looked into it yet

Thanks for the replies, esp the codes James :)
I have not flushed the engine as there are mixed feelings about doing this. Some say it can make things worse. I will certainly do this if it will help though..
James.. Do I need to take the bottom end off again to get to the squirt, or is there an easier way..?

Bizgsi.. I did the oil pump seal, but it didn't help..

if engine needed a flush ,rocker box would be sludged up ,you would thats why you normally look while its off , if they had fallen out youd have noticed them in sump ,id wouled want to know what actual pressure was

I reckon I need an oil pressure gauge installed.
The sump was pretty clean really, as was the oil pump. Rocker box is ok too as I had to re fit the gasket as some muppet had not put it in right and there was oil everywhere under the bonnet when I got it.

thats not likely on a tdi ,oil pressure switch runs off filter head which is nearly direct from pump

Wasn't aware, sorry for throwing in something that wasn't relevant.

For what its worth and taking an overview, these are the questions I would forward.

Was the original oil pressure test carried out correctly?
Is installing a pressure gauge an option to view exactly what pressure at what revs?
Could something like a fracture in the oil filter housing cause oil pressure loss? The fracture opening up when the engine metal gets warm?????
Cheap oil filter causing problems?
Finally could it be another duff switch?

It's useful to step away from the coal face now and again to take stock. On the face of it you have an engine that it clean inside and now has new shells so I'm damn if I know......

wasnt trying to be funny just thought yove tried everything else nothing to lose trying different make or grade
