Ello all,
Noticed last night when pulling hard uphill my 200tdi makes a kind of high pitched whine from what sounds like the engine somwhere.
I've recently fitted a new gearbox, transerbox, clutch, propshafts and head gasket change.

I'm not too sure what could be making the noise. And it's only under load going uphill once it's warmed up and giving it some.
Any ideas of things to check or just everything haha.

And the noise is quite loud inside, the radio up struggles to cover it!!

Given the work you've already done, might be worth taking the belt off and checking that the water pump spins freely.
Warmed up, working hard, the viscous fan might be making the pump bearings work a bit harder?

Does it depend on gear? - I mean did it make the noise in 3rd and 4th?
I know you have replaced the UJs, but even new parts can give trouble. And noises are notoriously hard to locate. It might be worth removing a propshaft and running in 4WD high to eliminate the front/rear drive train.
Just a thought. I'm trying not to think about engine bearings.

Loud high pitch whine is from the turbo I think. There's no play in the turbine shaft and is as it should??? Any ideas?? I had the turbo unbolted and pushed to the side when I changed head gasket, cleaned the surfaces and put new exhuast gasket on and tightened up as should. I have no idea why it's making this noise.

It will be fine no noise apart from when the engine is up to temp and been on a good run then when pulling hard up hill it will whine like hell.

Swap turbos and see if it does it??
 
Yes fella I did check this as that what I thaught it might be. Just seems odd it starts happening after taken the head off
 
Could it be an intake manifold gasket got pinched when fitting, turbo would blow air out of it, wouldn't hear it when sucking with no turbo.

just a thought:)
 
Na I know what ya mean fella but the turbo will be fine and engine will be fine no odd noise like a gasket blowing then after a good 20min when engines hot and giving it some it whines like hell. But then you stop for a min or so and then it will be fine again when turbo is going
 
Did anyone ever figure out what caused the high pitch noise. I just put a 200tdi in my Series and I am experiencing a similar if not the same problem.

I like my 200 in my series but best advice is to get some ear plugs!
