I may take him a bag of bits and ask wtf he can do with that pile of carp. I have heard he can be quite a character.

If it had just been seals I would have had a stab at that but it very quickly became obvious it was more than that.

With a go/no-go critical part that will leave you stranded at the worst possible time, an unknown second hand unit makes no financial sense. Just send your chosen unit to Diesel Bob, pay your money for a full and proper rebuild. Then sit back knowing there's near zero chance of failure. Certain components, including the fuel system, should be treated like brakes...they're a safety critical component.

I have fitted 2nd hand injection pumps to a few 200 and 300 before, all were just fine, one of my 200 is still fine the best part of a decade later.

I reckon a bosch ve pump is good for at least 100k and still useable for the next 100k, unlike common rail rail junk.

I reckon it will still be much the same price as buying a recon one from him.

Any running 2nd hand engines near you, ebay/marketplace etc?

AliExpress enter bosch ve into the search box, no idea on quality etc, but certainly cheap.

A mate of mine now uses ALI express insetad of ebay. He said he may as well get the stuff he buys from the source and cut out the middle man.
