Hi Looking for some help/advice as new owner of a 2009 TDV8 Autobiography with 135k.
I've only owned the car for a couple of months but recently the engine management light came on. My local garage plugged it in and it came back with the EGR as the fault which they cleared but after driving it for about 7 miles the light came back on. There's no loss of power so as to a bit of a loss as the what the issue is so looking for any advice before I put it back into the garage.
Thanks
Mark

EGR's are a common failure on the TDv8.

unfortunately.

Not cheap either..
Thanks for the replies.
I've not got the code but it will be going back in for further investigation but i can'y get it there for a few weeks. Just paranoid that it may cause further issues or going to be landed with a big bill. Is there anyway of testing EGR's? Am i right in thinking there's 2 fitted? Would the fault code denote which one was faulty?
I knmow you can get them from Euro Car Parts just wondered what your thoughts are on these versus genuine Landrover?

With the EGR potential failure modes including valve heads breaking up & disappearing into the turbo or cylinders (if the EGR is not blanked off), I'd be very wary of the quality of any non genuine / OE parts.

Thanks for that I'd better brace myself for pricing them up then I suppose.

Hmm, it might be referring to the egr not returning to its idle position or any other variable position. Could be mechanically stuck I. E gummed up or the electronic side faulty.
It may be worth removing and assessing its condition. ;)

I had that code on mine when the EML came on. The EGR was moving fine due to the ECU signal after I removed it to check (pipework blanked off, but electrical connector connected to the EGR and the engine started).
However, the signal from the position sensor didn't match what the Engine ECU expected the EGR to be doing - so fault generated.
Cleaning it wouldn't make any difference so I fitted a second hand good replacement (£35 inc postage !).
From what I've read elsewhere, they were forced to fit the position sensor to check what the valve was doing as part of the "improvements" driven by EURO 4 ! All they appeared to have done is add more failure modes & software complications.

Your right, normally à egr sensor position issue ends up in a new unit as it's normally an electronic fault but sometimes, just sometimes they can be cleaned and saved.

This is one of the reasons I asked if he had done a visual check. Other one being melted hose :)

Great minds, thinking like minds that are great and also with great ideas although..... We could be wrong about things that would be great if they were right! Oh great..... Reminds, I should clean the ashes out of the fire this evening...

This evening!? I clean mine in the morning. I never know how early I will need to put fire on. Today was mid afternoon. Which is great , as I have been burning it almost 24/7 the last week or so:eek:

Guess who I'm off to pick up next week ;) :D

24/7? Ours goes on in the evening if needs be. Old stone walls and tons of insulation in the ceiling and roof.
Your going for the golden girl? I thought she was at home?
Or... A new four legged companion??? o_O

I've got old stone walls, and has decent insulation in roof. Problem is I am renting whilst I search for my perfect home, and landlord is a douche. He hid rising damp with fresh coat of paint, new carpet, and loads of airing of house before viewing. Upshot is log burner is main source of heat as 70% of radiators can't be switched on. However, yhe scenery and view is fantastic :D
Golden Girl has been away since August. That's who I'm going to get. Only allowed to do the 4hr journey , as she is classed as 'essential'.
Four legged on hold. My little BC is keeping me entertained , but still want a GSD. Irons in fire but my favoured source are not homing at the moment, as they can't allow viewings.
