i dont know much about all the technical ins and outs but ive got a td5 that pulls mini diggers and quads on trailers on a regular basis and has on occasion towed twin axel caravans ive done186000 miles in it from new had it of roadf shooting on construction sites and although it has ran poorly on occasion it hasnt let me down where as my bro in law has had his 07 off the rd more often tahn on i had 1 for 2 days as a courtesy car but didnt get the chance to do anymore than drive to meetings in it so cant really give you decent appraisall:eek:

i know you all keep on about the gearbox faileure. but do you remember when they bought out the td5s? cooling probs + elec throttle faileure. its new so its still on test really. but in 3 years time i reckon they will be alright

I think you have missed the point, Bloat. the general public is NOT a company's test bed.
Car manufs have had 100 years to get it right. How often (plse excuse pun) do they re-invent the wheel? or make things more complicated and difficult?
How can a manuf design in toys climate an engine where yu need to remove it to change the plugs - or a gearbox that has to be connected to a test set to change the oil?
Its a buyers market - its easy to get a bad name and a nightmare to keep a good name. LR has suffered from lack of investment, shoddy workmanship and poor design. LR is not the only company with this problem - in fact most do.
There is no excuse for allowing a bad gearbox out on the general public. Its a typical example of "it dont work proper so lets design a new one" rather than fixing an old design or improving on it.

yeh fair play . wot i dont get is that why they dont do field tests . for instance when john deere bought out the new 30 series they gave 50 out to farmers nationwide for 6 months to try . then fixed the problems an tried again . and again and again till it all worked

The R380 wouldnt fit thats why they changed it I'm told.
and if U look at the 07 defender the stick is further back is it not..
hence why its strait and not bent?
