I think you have missed the point, Bloat. the general public is NOT a company's test bed.
Car manufs have had 100 years to get it right. How often (plse excuse pun) do they re-invent the wheel? or make things more complicated and difficult?
How can a manuf design in toys climate an engine where yu need to remove it to change the plugs - or a gearbox that has to be connected to a test set to change the oil?
Its a buyers market - its easy to get a bad name and a nightmare to keep a good name. LR has suffered from lack of investment, shoddy workmanship and poor design. LR is not the only company with this problem - in fact most do.
There is no excuse for allowing a bad gearbox out on the general public. Its a typical example of "it dont work proper so lets design a new one" rather than fixing an old design or improving on it.
