I just thought that I would throw this out there to see if anyone has tried this?

I really like the centre console in the 2007+ models and I am thinking of restoring a Defender that I have just purchased, it needs a new chassis and bulkhead and I thought that I would try to upgrade the dashboard as well.

Is this Possible ????

And does anyone know where I can get a spare dashboard from, besides a breakers, as in are there any aftermarket one out there?

James

Everything is possible, I've no idea how easy it would be, but 2007 on defenders are seriously claustrophobic

There narrower I believe and would stick further out so it would be fun making it fit

If your replacing the bulkhead why not fit a 2007+ bulkhead, then surely the dash would be a easy fit ??

That was also my thought, now all I have to do is find a smashed up 2007 onwards for parts, or what I was hoping was that there was an aftermarket version.

I have been looking around the web but not found anyone else that has tried this.

No idea why you would want to fit the new dash, can't imagine it would be easy to hose clean. Anyway, I've seen new tdci bulkheads including the complete dash go for ridiculously cheap on eBay. You do know that you'll lose functionality of the front vents though? If you retain an older bulkhead that is

To fit the TDCI dash your going to have to do a fair amount of electrical work too including the matrix. Personally I much prefer the simplicity of the earlier ones. Good luck ;)

I'm with you on this. I am restoring my 1991 defender and used a Puma Bulkhead but have kept the 1991 dash. Nice and simple. Thinking of fitting a raptor panel, not sure yet.

Advice taken, i will stick with the present dash and maybe look at the raptor stuff, i need a double DIN for a flat screen touch PC, im a bit of a geek and ive fitted a few 12v powered PC's in cars runnng XP and Centerfuse software so was aiming at doing the same here, but i wanted something that would not look like a bolt on unit.

I've had a few in car pcs, now I've just bought an iPad mount, much easier and it always works lol

Alternatively fit a TD5 bulkhead with the flat centre piece and have raptor (or similar) make a new facia to accommodate the double size.

you can get double din td5 dashes, my old 110 had one fitted

Was this fitted to an earlier bulkhead or did you use Td5 bulkhed? The problem here is that we have no scrap yards with parts to measure and play with, and as i will proberbly order a nice and shiny galvenised bulkhead i will need to know it will fit into a 1991 200 Tdi...

Sorry, i didnt make that very clear now, the double din setup was on a 110 TD5 i used to have, not my current tdi.

But if you need a new bulkhead regardless, you could put in a (post 2002) td5 one and you will have the right dash for the double din unit, im sure you can get a double din plate for a dash with the single din one as i did the reverse!

I have a 2003 TD5 dash in my 1988 model. I've also fitted a raptor dash as the centre facia fixings broke. Happy to post pics.
