i got one off ebay a few weeks ago for £120 out of a wrecked mini cooper, same unit and as its not been in an l322 or an x5 you can be pretty sure its never had water in it. took 5 mins to change the splash to a nice black and silver range rover vouge one. happy days

Hi Paul, what was the part number of the unit you fitted?

Also how did you change the Splash Screen?

Regards,

If it from the early 2000 models upto around 2003 or so, it should be plug and play, but you'd have to check the model numbers as I am not sure.

As for changing the splash screen, check gooooogle for a website called Neil Oakley or similar, he has listed downloads for upgrades and also software to create custom splash screens so you can have any image you want on it!!

Can anyone recommend where to get one or perhaps is anyone on here selling one at a knockdown price??

Hi guys.....
Just fitted the MKIV unit, updated it via Matt Stevenson's fantastic blog info....
IE: written cd with new flash screen but.........No PERSPECTIVE option on mine???

Probably the best simple upgrade for the 2002-2005 (Non-Touchscreen) L322 is changing from the MKIII Sat Nav unit to the MKIV DVD based version.

After a trip into Central London (St Mary Axe, The Gherkin to be precise) the other weekend and the annoyance of London road systems made the MKIII unit really show its age.

The MKIII unit is simple in nature and is adequate for the job but the lack of moving map, slow refresh, annoying interface etc made for a stressful trip into London.

So enough is enough, I headed onto Ebay and searched the myriad of MKIV units out there...they do tend to go pretty quick at the cheaper end of the scale that I was looking at. Cheapest I found was £245 all the way up to £500+!!

After reading reviews, feedback comments and the like, I settled on a unit for £289 + £15 in postage from a seller with 100% feedback and has sold a good few of these units – he is known on the bay as Mirrtzi and is based in Romania.

Now I am very cautious of overseas purchases from the bay, but his/her feedback, comments, reviews etc all painted a very glowing picture and as I would make the payment via PayPal and a Credit Card which offers me online purchase protection I thought I should be well covered for any issues that may occur.

Well, I needn’t have feared – the unit arrived today exceedingly well packaged, well in advance of the anticipated delivery day and so wrapped up in bubblewrap and foam, I think it could have been dropped from a passing Hercules and survive!!

I couldn’t wait so I went immediately to the car to plug it in.....

Open Boot and remove the side panel cover....eject the Map Disc from the old unit

Now WAIT FOR THE RED LIGHT TO GO OUT and then insert prongs into the side holes to release the unit from the cage and slide the unit out

Remove the GPS antenna on the rear and slide over the locking tabs to release the 2 connectors

60.jpg

Plug the new unit in and attach the GPS Antenna cable

70.jpg

Slide into the cage being careful not to trap the cabling

Insert your new DVD based Map Disc – your old one from the MKIII will no longer work so make sure you get the DVD based ‘High’ mapping (not ‘Professional’ as this is for the BMW iDrive system) mine came with a map DVD and the latest V32 firmware with Speed Camera and Perspective mode.

And that is it basically....

I asked the seller to install the Land Rover splash screen which he kindly arranged prior to shipping

The unit introduces a new menu screen

New Config/Settings menu including Split Screen, Camera Alerts and Perspective Settings

Also a new Radio interface too

Here are some of the Nav Shots....

And I kid you not, it was a 5 minute install – the longest part is waiting for the red light to go off before you unplug the old unit!!!

Map is much improved, you get a moving map display, Postcode Search, a better Points of Interest database, more intuitive interface and faster refresh, reroute and search.

A massive thank you to Mirrtzi from ebay for his/her fantastic service, fast delivery and great communications throughout. :D:D:D

If you are looking for a MKIV unit, and you see one from this ebayer, I can recommend as my transaction was superb.
Ant, I done this today what a difference !!!!!!

A much better looking interface and with moving map rather than moving symbol, then wait for the map to catch up.....well done, well worth the change!

there is a free app called WAZE which is a real time traffic update. It also has a brilliant nav function which gives you eta, etc but also re-routes you if a serious jam appears ahead. Much better than the in-car system.

Holy Necropost Batman!!
Now that's out the way, it's not quite a sat-nav upgrade but the post about no DID didnt quite suit the purposes of my question. So here it is, for quite some time I have been without visual on my DID. Sounds all work, etc but no piccies. Does anyone know if I can just take the unit of the extendable arms and replace with either of the following? Or is it , as per usual, not that simple? @Saint.V8 , @myfirstl322 ,@holidaychicken or anyone else who knows.

Ok, answering my own question , I can see that is not a match. Which leads me to another question. All the L322 second hand units are the full thing, cassette player, et al. Is it possible to just replace the screen, that comes out to allow cassettes to be put in? My cassette player works, I still have audio , can the actual display unit be replaced, without replacing everything else. I really would love to avoid the dash being pulled apart :(

Have you checked the video module connections in the boot?

The screen is driven via this - reports are you can still get sound but no display if this has gone bandy.

You've got your wires crossed GR, I never bought a thing off him, no need,
I'm 'unofficially' house/dungeon sitting for him while he's away browning himself,
The place is AMAZING.........so many things need batteries, it's costing me a fortune, I plan to make him pay to tell him how I gained entry.

Ps, Where can I buy carpet cleaner?

@Saint.V8 Sorry Ant, this is a bit above my pay grade.I have no idea , what or where the video module connections are. The last time I checked the boxes in the boot I broke the maroon and blue connectors and they are held in place with black nasty.

BTW, do Halford's still sell puncture repair kits?

Perhaps rechargeable batteries are the way to go :D Perhaps charging him for info when you have already damaged some of his toys is a tad unfair. If halfords dont do it, maybe black nasty will work.
