Hi again guys,
sorry i am new to this and have no knowledge in mechanics whatsoever...

What I notice in my 60.000 miles 2.5 TDiesel is that between 10000 and 3000 revs the car struggles to pull...

is this to do with the low torque at low revs for this engine (then considered normal) or is it something else?

thanks guys!

Have you checked all your turbo hoses?? Sounds almost like their collapsing internally restricting airflow and starving the engine of air.

Does it rev freely in neutral??

i have a performance intercooler for sale for a 2001-2004 dse ;)

Hi, thanks for that,
I didnt check the hoses, dont even know how to start...
in neutral it just keeps nicely at 1000.

whats next?

it has a full service 5k miles ago... but could just go for an inspection at a dealer... I had the car for a few days only,

any recommendation for a good, honest land rover dealer?

thanks!

just a thought! but im guessing this is your 1st diesel ranger?

if it is they are not the quickest of things off the block as std.
hence the reason you are not getting the power till that rev range (when the turbo spools up)
thats why i had mine chipped! its a different motor now :D

So...

1) are these any good?

2) it was done when the car was 1000 miles only, its now 61000, will it still be working fine?

3) how does it compare to the JE engineering ones?

thanks!

have you located your chip?
reading through, it does not say how many fuel maps it uses etc etc as some just turn up your fueling etc just for power.
read the link About the Spider diesel tuning device it explains how it works, or you can call them and speak to "nick" he will run you through how it computes compared to others on the market.
i am pleased with mine power and economy wise, between 20-25 mpg round town and 32-35 with cruise set at 70mph.

thanks guys, I will locate it tomorrow morning and let you know how it is looking, can I just take it out so to see the difference... thing is, I never drove a 2.5 diesel RR and have no idea of how it is "normal" for it to run... will report tomorrow though.

best

if you can locate the chip, wich will be on the passenger side of the engine bay, you can just unplug it and plug the loom back together, but it sounds to me that it has been removed?
did the seller say it was chipped or was it a case of you just found some paperwork for 1 in the history?

in std form they are way underpowered and if yours is not chipped at the mo,then that would explain why you think its slow lol
spend around £350.00 on a decent chip/remap and it will be the best money you spend on it power/economy wise ;)

I don't fully agree with that he said it struggles to pull between a rev range of 1000-3000rpm, not in any particular gear. If he had said it struggles to pull in 4th at 1750rpm or something then I would agree that he just isn't used to the vehicle.

If it struggles to pull in all gears between 1000-3000rpm then you have a problem somewhere Im guessing.

It IS sluggish when cold though but once warmed up I find with mine, which is currently unchipped at the moment as long as I give it a bit of lead foot treatment it will still pull well through the gears.

ok, maybe i should explain better, this is only my 3rd automatic car after a jaguar Xj6 3.2 and a alfa romeo 166 3.0 V6... what really bugs me is, and with the car well warm (not from cold):

1. to move the car from stopped I need to rev it hard, it only really starts moving from like 2000/2500 rpm,

2. its like it behaves like in "neutral" between 1000 and 2000/2500 rpm

3. at any speed, 30, 40, 50 mph... and cruising, if I lift the foot off the accelerator, the revs drop immediately to 1000 (as in neutral), unless I am accelerating of course, is this normal?

it never happened with my other auto cars... the engine will do that sound coming down the revs, it doesnt just drops to 1000 rpm like its in neutral... this really bugs me...

4. say, I am doing 50 mph, and I lift the foot, accelerating again means the engine will catch back the revs, at 2000, 2500 so you get that early gear noise, moving up through the gears again, this doesnt sound right, even my wife notices the difference to my alfa and i dont know what to tell her.

5. I dont seem to be able to go from gear to gear in normal acceleration, e.g., without stepping down on it and reaching the "normal" speed for the 4th gear to come... it sounds like i am always in no more then 3rd... unless I am cruising beyond 50, 60 mph or in the motorway.

what do you think?

thanks!
