I know that problems with the immobiliser have been covered before but I have tried all suggestions and still no joy but there maybe another problem someone might know about.

A friend borrowed my Land Rover to collect something. (The conditions have been dry and hot for days so I'm discounting rain issues). He had the window down and didn't lock the doors when stopped. He stopped at a couple of places and had no problems. At his last stop the car wouldn't start. Lights on dash but engine wouldn't turn over. He thought the battery was flat so with help tried to bump start. Engine wouldn't fire. Gave up trying and locked the car using key fob. Then realised that the window was open and so tried unlocking the drivers door with the key and the alarm went off. He put the key in the ignition but everything dead. I came with the spare key but both fobs not getting a reaction. Everytime I put the key in the ignition the alarm goes off. I tried the Emergency Key code but as the alarm goes off as soon as I turn the key in the door it doesn't seem to be working. In any case I continued with the code and nothing happened apart from the alarm going off.

Got the car collected and now back home but need to use the car desperately.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Try this: Assuming the car is locked (apart from window), unlock the drivers door with the key, then lock it again with the fob then unlock the door with the fob, then try the ignition.

Thanks for the advice.

So we got the car transported home. The battery was dead and the alarm wasn't going off so some good news. Connected a battery charger and the alarm went off! Nothing else happening with electrics, key fob wouldn't work (battery replaced) and the EKC didn't do anything. I wondered if there wasn't enough juice to power the door lock so I hooked another car to jump start it. The key fob worked! I was able to unlock all the doors and start the car. I let it run for half an hour stopped and restarted!

However, I tried it a couple of hours later and nothing. I charged the battery overnight and it was in an immobilised condition. I successfully entered the EKC with the audible blips as in the manual and it worked. It started ok. Looks like I have some fault that is immobilising the car but at least I can use the car today.

Now I have found that the immobiliser cuts in every time I turn the engine off. I have to keep entering the EKC every time to reset the immobiliser.

Thanks for the info. It looks as if something is screwed as entering the EKA code does not work all the time. What I mean is that sometimes I get an error (single blip) even though I am being very careful. From the documents it looks as if passive immobilization has been enabled however, the remote now does not have any effect.

As I am in France, finding someone with a tester may be task but hopefully, that will the answer.

if the EKA doesnt work ALL the time and u get sungle bip on lock command then it could be the driver's door switch(part of the whole lock actuator) at fault, or it's wiring...that single blip means a misslock and if the switch doesnt work properly it misses inputs while u insert the EKA code....though the fob must work all the time, replace it's battery
