My mate Tom stuck in L'pool.
200 tdi wont rev and no power.
fuel at lift pump and pressure
fuel coming out return from pump when ticking over
black smoke from tailpipe

any suggestions please before I go out and tow him back.:)

Thanks..

No different with intercooler pipe off he says so dunno,.
could the pump wheel have skipped a notch dya think ?

Right
towed him back from L'pool (and burst me rad on the way back)

new lift pump
piped fuel direct from lift pump to fuel pump
Got fuel at injectors but not a lot
all rockers working as they should
took plunger out of stop valve

Engine starts and fires evenly on all four for about 2 seconds then goes lumpy then stops
Engine wont respond to throttle lever on pump.
It will sometimes idle for a minute but very lumpy.
Dark grey / black smoke chuffing from exhaust when firing.
never fails to start instantly but lumpy idle only

Engine sucking fiercely at intake as it should.

So it's getting air and a little fuel but what can be stopping the fuel getting through from the pump to injectors?

Does the diaphram go wrong on top of pump?

Motor only done just over 100k

Baffled:confused:

my next step would be to check the pump timing (belt my have jumped)
Had the inspection cover off and nothing loose

Tom said that it happened slowley over about ten miles or so, loosing power by degrees until it would only tick over, cant see any water in fuel or blockages anywhere. The pump shouldn't go wrong but fuel not getting to injectors in correct quantity I think:confused:

Update

Removed the fuel cap......no different

Blew fuel back into tank with air line...no different

Removed diaphram etc from top of fuel pump cleaned and replaced...no different

Started engine and whilst it ticked over rough, managed to spray some carb cleaner into the intake....she ran better, coughed and then ticked over on all four cylinders:)

She will now tick over nicely and rev quite a bit on the throttle but seems to be starved of fuel still so going to put a new fuel filter on tomorrow just in case it IS blocked after all.

Fingers crossed:rolleyes:

New fuel filter fitted and still the same

Slow to respond to throttle and wont rev above about 2500

Must be fuel starvation bt why???

.

sedimenter maybe

Good thought but 90 and not got one, gonna feed the lift pump from a container of derv tomorrow and see if that makes it run.
It'll eliminate tank problems anyway.

Might have to try a brand new lift pump in case the pressure aint right, we put an old but good one from a td on it.

:)

corroded fuel pick up pipe under seat or loose fuel bango bolt will start and rev to about 1K RPM then die out. Me thinks a tiny air leak getting into fuel system possibly Jai

Fed the lift pump direct from a jerry can tonight and the problem still the same.

Notices fuel bubbles coming from bleed screw on top of filter but no change when sorted it out.

Going to change the cambelt on Sat as it is due and fit a new lift pump but do one job at a time to see which cures it (if any:()

running out of ideas:rolleyes::rolleyes:

did you manage to get it going iv got the same problem
???

Still not going..:(
Eliminated fuel quality problem
Lift pump.....renewed
Fuel Filter.....renewed
Injector pump...swapped and re timed
Injectors..tested ok
Cam belt...renewed and re timed
Inter cooler pipes ok
Induction sucking like a gud un
Exhaust pipes clear
Turbo working
Rocker gear moving valves up and down ok
Plenty of Compression....still to get a gauge on it though

Still to consider.
May have been sold a duff pump but doubt it
Compressions may be down but why suddenly would it do that?
Injectors may still be iffy even though they have been tested.. still to change them

It's not drawing air in anywhere and there is plenty of fuel pressure at the injectors
The cam and pump timing are ok

Please find out what your problem is and then I can fix mine...:D

does your alternator light on your clocks flicker because im thinking that its something electrical because iv ruled out pretty much everything you have?:confused::confused:

Cant be electrical because we have had the plunger out of the stop control and it was still the same.
The stop control is the only electrical part that could stop the engine from running.

Given up on it now as there is nothing else left to try :(

i had this problem its air in the fuel system somewhere theres an air leak in the fuel line my was the pick in the fuel tank

Ta, I'll check that again at weekend.

Got some injectors on loan to try at weekend, and will be checking spill off and return as well so here's hoping..:)

turns out my fuel lift pump isn't working properly i loosened off the air bleed on the fuel filter and the engine started to regain power strange????:)
