Putting 200tdi into series 3. Want to check it runs OK before going any further. New head gasket and timing belt fitted by Land Rover specialist. New battery turns over freely, fuel stop solanoid working, timing correct, fuel system bled tappits checked and OK. Tried small squirt of easy start and she tried to fire. Glow plugs working Help!

Sounds like air to me. Undo the joints on pipes at top of injectors and crank over till fuel appears put pipes back on and away you go! (Hopefully)

Well a diesel engine needs air, compression and fuel to run, but they need to happen at the right time.

You have air and compression to some degree (it tried to start on easy start).
You have fuel to the injectors, but was it pulsing from the union when the engine was turned over ? as this would show that the pump it's self is working, or do you only get fuel out when using the electric pump ?

If it is pulsing then the only thing left is cam, crank, pump timing.

It may be worth checking the valve clearances, it the valves aren't closing properly you wont have enough compression for it to fire.
