Hi Group, got 2 minor problems which someone may be able to advise:
Old 90 fitted with disco 200 tdi:
1 - started great in the summer and runs well when hot. Still starts now in this sub zero climate but sounds like its on 2 or 3 pots for a short while with more than usual blue smoke - is this duff heater plugs or just normal?

2 - Its got a front axle from a non descript disco fitted which is now 2rattling" when accelerating - is there and easy way to identify which side is at fault and which CV joints are fitted before stripping?

I have the same problem as the first one with my 200tdi 90. I have fitted new glow plugs as all the old ones were duff and mine sounds like it has dropped a cylinder, with a fair bit of smoke, until it has been running for about 20 seconds but this doesn't happen if I give it about three goes on the glow plugs before trying to start it. Again, this is only since the really cold weather. Are there any better quality glow plugs available that chuck out more heat? What else could be the cause of this.

Did ye fit ****part plugs?
 
That's a big difference in price, are they really that much better? and yes I did fit the cheap ones, about £15 for a set as opposed to £26 each for the genuine ones. If they are really that good, I'll buy a set but don't want to spend over a £100 if they don't make that much difference.

I've seen original plugs last 10-15 years, you don't have to be Stephen Hawkins to work out which is the better buy

and no he isn't the singer from The Darkness
 
Has anyone tried NGK glow plugs, they sell at about £40 a set, I can't imagine they will be tat but would prefer to hear if anyone has tried them or I'll be ordering a set of the genuine ones.
