test fitting the silicone reducers, (I'm using 3">2" 90 degree silicone reducers. 3 inch is too large really but i had a deal on the intercooler)

Intercooler in place, I will mount it with some rubber M8 bobbins top and bottom shortly.

I have come across another problem,
The coolant gauge doesn't read correctly using the daihatsu sender in the head.

The landrover one is completely different to the threads in the head and the thermostat housing.
 
a 15mm drill bit and a M16x1 tap

2.5TD coolant temp. sensor now fits into the daihatsu thermostat housing :)

Temp gauge issue now sorted!
 
really enjoyed reading this thread, got a 2.8td lump ive been thinking of replacing the 12j with, cant decide between it and the 300tdi

300TDI will have better mpg and power in standard form.

Daihatsu will be far more reliable and with a bit of tweaking produce good power too imo.

I have the engine back plate, engine-bell housing adaptor plate, 2 x engine mountings, Milner thermostat housing.

Hi. Newcomer. I am at the same stage re voltage regulator, alternator and wiring up. I am putting Daihatsu 2.8 turbointercooler in a LWB Gipsy. Used to use a BMC 2.5 D but taxi lot have used all good spares by now. Cam across nearly new Daihatsu lump. Your info on woring up will help a lot.

Notice your intercooler. I have the oriiginal Daihatsu one, which is neat but probably small , I do have a new Mitsubishi one and if you are interested I could measure it and let you know.

Obviously not fired up yet. Main reservation on the Daihatsu is that it uses a timing belt. Blasted things. A triple bank chain as in the BMC never causes any trouble , is silent and never needs changing.

Why use a Gipsy? Well it has done me well for 250.K. My Disco is a B****r although the Defender is OK but lacks grip

The Intercooler i fitted is a bit large but it will act as a great heatsink for when i up the boost pressure on the turbo!

The Daihatsu DL-52 engine is Cambelt driven, but if you can find a DL-50 it is gear driven! Thats the one to use if you dont like cambelts!
