Should I flush my engine with ATF?

Hold on. You mean I shouldn't have filled mine with paraffin?! I thought that was part of the flushing process. I know, I'll flush it out with a can of brake cleaner. That should do the trick...

Morning Alan. I did mention that Paraffin was used back in the day as a flushing agent for diesels. Common practice to add it to sump oil as a flush. ;):D

Not just diesels. Mate of mine used to do it to his petrols too.
 
Kerosine seems still popular too for flushing. There’s a guy on YT fills his engine entirely with it, then takes the fuel pump fuse out so it won’t run, cranks 50 times then drops and uses the kerosine to run his heater after.

That sounds more realistic, I wouldn't want the engine running with kerosene in the sump, iI would be worried about the pressures put on the big ends and main bearings without propper lubrication.

Main difference is how much thinner drop 2 is. I do believe the agents in the white helped to catalyse the suspension of the dirt but being thinner allows it to flow out far betterer. It’s hard to tell but especially on the dipstick the mixture doesn’t look black as much as gray like @landowner mentioned and was particularly easier to clean up the black in the filter housing etc after drop 2. Another 200ml or so drained out when left overnight plus I managed to swob some more out of the drain hole


I’m reserving judgement until its ran with new decent oil a bit, but there is a lot less crap floating around my engine now no doubt. True this would also be the case without the additive, maybe driving it a while is the best way for the oil to absorb most residue before dropping?
Frequency is definitely the key factor either way.

Ye ive seen ones that pour water into intake to clean out old diesels. If it hydrolocks can bend the pistons all sorts
