HI all am new to the site and have just got my self a range rover 2.5 dse. and what a surprise i have problams :mad: it will fire up but die straight away. wont even run for 1 second is this glow plugs ur some thing ells:scratching_chin: some times it will start fine. can any one help please thanks
 
Need to make sure the in tank lift pump is working, then make sire diesel is getting to the fuel injector pump, then crack injectors to make sure its getting through to the injectors
 
Take this is when cold as you mention plugs. Do you have air in the clear pipe from filter to FIP?

Possibly a problem with fuel quantity servo get it on diagnostics and see what codes are present.
 
How much fuel have you got in the tank? If it's less than a quarter then I would look at the lift pump. Try briming the tank and see if it helps.
 
I'v had a similar issue... there is nothing wrong with the lift pump itself, it's the quantity sender that is at fault. When the tank reads just below 1/4 on the guage, it's actually empty. I proved it by refilling the tank and it took just over 90 litres....

Sender & pump are all part of the same in-tank unit... you can either drop the tank, or there are instructions somewheere in here for cutting a hole in the floor to change it.
 
i filled the tank and is the same still fires up and dies but dose start in the end could it still be the quantity sender realy doing me nut in know had it on diagnostics to day no fault codes

try slackening the 17mm nut on the clear fuel line a little at the back of the FIP and get someone to turn the ignition on so the glow plug light comes on and make sure fuel is being fed to the FIP.

Just been thinking about this.Have you checked that there is a click at the stop solenoid on the FIP when you turn on ignition.Worth a check.Dunno if you can do this on a RR but i have, in the past run a live wire to the stop solenoid on the FIP to check the wiring .Or with ignition off, disconnect the feed wire from the stop solenoid and run a live wire to that point and when the wire is touched against the solenoid contact you have removed the wire from you should hear a click as the solenoid lifts. Hope this helps :)

Or take the feed wire off and test for power with multimeter and ignition on.
 
sods law bin out said for an hour checking stop solenoid and fuel feed turninig it on and off lost count how many times and it started 1st time every time what ever it is its an intermitent fault :5bcuss:

Check your fuse box for signs/smells of burning or getting warm....also check the Stop Relay for signs of arcing etc....

The fusebox is a known weak point!
 
If you have touched, moved or "shoogled" the wires around the stop solenoid before cranking it for the first time during the test tonight,i would check with the engine running and move the wires again around that point and see if you can make the engine cut out or miss a beat, and that could maybe be the prob. ;)
 
ok thanks guys have taken all this on bored i have had a look at fuse box dosent smell the best and seems hot so going to change it and see how we get on is the fuse box hard to change am good with spaners not so much wirering ha ha ha
