Hi Guys

I have just started the strip down of my 5mb 2.25d engine from my series 3. The only thing that has me scratching my head is that rather than the conventional timing chain as I was expecting it has a intermediate gear fitted linking the crank to the camshaft. The engine was running alright (smokey) before I started the the restoration.

Have any of you heard of this before?

Thank you

Joe

yeah, a company called zeus made these way back. they were regarded as crap quality and cost a few legs.

do a search on here for 'zeus timing'

Land rover Santana ( Spain) fitted timing gears as standard on th 2.25,
one of the advntges that I can see is that it nearly never wears out.
No chain or tensioners.
