hi there!

i have been fixing my landy for some time...but still it smokes light-blue and with comes a strong smell.
I have replaced the piston rings, new valve stem seals, fuel filter, injectors been tested. I have been turning the injection pump to find the right spot where it runs smoothly and with less smoke.
It has always smoked just mostly on idle.

thanks:)

this is what hapeened on mine, after years or months running with knackeredvalve seals all the oil that went passed the engine with out being burt away via valves ect the oil accumilated in the front exaust box and once the engine got hot it would smoke like thomas the tank engine, i replaced all the exaust system and that cut at least 90% of the smoke away, the other bit of smoke was cured by winding the injection pump on passed the marker a matter of about 10 mm this cured all the smoke and the engine still pulls well, you say you changed a few things bite the bit and have the injector pump serviced or replace with a known good 1 if you can get 1, hope this helps you, regards jim

generally changing rings on those blocks without rebore and machine hone dosent improve burning oil,did you gap rings when fitting and what wear was in bores ,which would be worst on side opposite inj pump, they often do smoke a little on idle but should clear when revs increase i usually rebore and fit new pistons if worn and they are prone for it pumps cab be advanced till engine knocks then just back far enough to loose knocking

hi

it had been reborde to 0.40 few years back, i was afraid of broken ring this time but everything looked good inside...still i fitted new rings and honed the bore.
The older rings did have to much gap.

I did notice one thing on some of the injectors, they build up a lot of coil on the ends..very dirty...even though i did just clean them.

one question... what about the timing chain. Can it be to stretched, does it slacken down during engine idle?

so is the smell related to getting oil in the exhaust. It really is toxic-like:eek:

thanks
