Perhaps erroneously, I loaned my cherished '88 90 2.5TD to my son. Despite his denials that he was flogging it and paying little attention to its welfare, he managed to overheat it to the extent that the cylinder head has become cracked - thankfully, everything else looks ok ......... I've been told that JamesMartin on here is the guru, but I'd also be grateful to hear from anyone who can supply a reasonably priced recon & tested cylinder head to replace it and get the old lady moving again ?

Turners Engineering- a well respected Landy engine and parts supplier- have the 19J head listed, but it's not cheap. Other options are obtain another engine from which you can rob the head, although that may have also suffered the same fate as yours. I am quite a fan of the 19J, but they have their issues, for sure, so it may be worth doing a 200/300 TDI conversion to minimise any further pain. Easy to do if you are mechanically minded, but time consuming.

Thanks for that ..... i'll certainly have a look .... convert it myself ? Unfortunately, i am one of those people who can identify and explain problems (& sometimes solutions) all day long ....it is when i pick up a spanner or screwdriver and my 10 left thumbs kick in that it all goes wrong !
 
Ok, fair enough, but there is a company called Glencoyne engineering who will do it all for you. They have a good reputation, but I suspect it's £££.
One thing I should say is if the cracks are in the combusion chambers (the circles with the unhappy smile!) they can be replaced quite easily. If the cracks are in the main head body, different story. Also worth checking the piston crowns very carefully for cracks, as these engines are notorious for them, although it will probably run fine for years with them.
