i have a 1997 p38 2.5 diesel. if i try to start it, it will just turn over for ages and then start firing and eventually start, once its running i can pull of and it cuts out as if lack of fuel. i try to start again and it turns over again and takes ages to start???? can anyone help as its doing my head in driving our lasses punto......

post it in the range rover section m8,someone in the know will shed some light on it!
sounds like 1 of the pumps to me though?
is there any air in the clear pipe to fip?

Its' your glow plugs; had identical problem 2 months ago; change them (takes about an hour) and she'll be right.

If the problem occurs when you have less than 1/4 tank of diesel then it is most likely your in-tank fuel pump not working.
