hi my name is carl and im a new owner off a 1996 p38 2.5 dse range rover with a problem lol its been stood up for 2 years with a becm fault i brought a secound hand 1 off ebay all seam good with mo messages on the display aprt from sunroof not set. it turns over fine but isnt getting any fuel to the injecters it pumps fine from tank to filter and to pump but nothing after pump if u turn the key from postion 0 to instant start it firs once then back to cranking over i cracked the injecter pipes off n when cranking i only get too small spurts from 1 n 2 pot then back to nothing :( does anyone have any idea as to wat it could be ? thanks carl

The BeCM needs synching to the engine ECU. You'll need someone with Testbook / Faultmate etc to be able to do this (Independant Land Rover specialist or main stealer). (When you try to start it, the BeCM looks for the correct code from the ECU. If it doesn't get it, it doesn't instruct the ECU to operate and hence no fuel in the engine. At least that's the way I understand it anyway).
 
No cheap fix I'm afraid. Stealers will charge around 65-70 quid upwards I think, independants maybe somewhat less (guessing as never had to have it done). If you put your location in your details, it maybe that one of the contributors on here that has the necessary gear may be close enough to give you a visit. Failing that, you may have to send the BeCM and engine ECU off to someone such as Irishrover or Rick the Pick.
Normal autoelectricians seldom have the correct gear to work on Rangies.
 
thanks i live in grantham lincolnshire i will try those ways if some one local could sort it for me i would be greatfull i would pay them off course for there trouble thanks carl
 
No question you need to have the BECM re-synched to the engine ECU. Irishrover is your man, PM him for advice.
 
i had a bloke come up and he re-synched the becm to the ecu he said the codes are the same it should go he said the ecu seemed fine was talking ok to him with no faluts the becm is working fine s o not sure wat to do:(
 
yes i checked that and run a live to it .it clicks on and off with ignition but havent had it out is there a way off testing it thanks carl

hi ive checked solenoid,tried it with the stop out too theres constant power to the pump when there should be and checked n changed heater plugs as 5 are not working it starts for 2 secounds when turning the key from 0 to start then just carrys on cranking over if u put the ingnition on then turn it over it wont fire its as if it turns the pump off as soon as the igintion is on but has a quick fire when uve tricked the ignition for the 2 secounds it starts has any 1 any more ideas thanks bertybe
 
When i bought the becm i got the key and door lock with it, i changed the blade on the key so the fob is the corect one for the becm. (is the key chipped?) I didnt change the door lock, i dont know if this is the problem or not, i would realy appreciate any more info. Thanks Bertybe.

Have read through your posts and the useful comments by other Buddies on here. Can you answer a few questions for me....

Why did you change the BECM?
Is the new BECM a newer or older version of the original..post the part number, it will be AMR**** or YWC****** ?
Was the replacement BECM programmed to your car? It could have the original EMS code (Unique Engine ecu code still logged) and this needs to be the same as the one stored in your engine ecu...UNLESS you had the matching engine ecu with the BECM package and fitted it.
Did the new BECM come from a petrol or diesel car?

The BECM programme must be matched to one of the following engine choices, Early EDC (Diesel), Late EDC (Diesel), Petrol GEMS, Petrol Motronic (Thor). If the incorrect type is logged, the car will not run. It could be that the new BECM has the alarm and immobiliser functions disabled. To be honest, I feel that if hopefully, you still have the original BECM that it be sent to have it's settings read and duplicated or "Cloned" into your new BECM with either the new keyfob coding or the original...your choice.
The engine EMS code will still be stored in your old BECM, or if you don't have it, can be retrieved from your engine ecu by Faultmate/Rovacom/Test Book.
Synchmate will only work if the EMS codes match in the BECM and engine ecu's.
Finally, Have you checked the condition of the fusebox in the engine bay? If not, could be worthwhile removing it and inspecting the interior for signs of damage..information on this at Range Rovers

Let us know how thing go or with the answers to the above queries.
