Well a bit disappointed today, have to take the kids to school tomorrow and going to be a distinctly dodgie drive. But looks like I will be taking the citreon ZX...........

Ferrying the wife to and from work in the snow today. On the way home found a big empty car park so went in and showed the girls how to slide around in a rangie, then head home....

Went out to pick up wife later (not her fault) and noticed the ABS and brake light have staid on. Have brakes and only a short drive of 3 miles each way. Anyway in the sleet have checked the fuses and relays (well swapped for others from a car that I broke ages ago but had no warning lamps). Still warning lamps.

Just been around the block still ABS and brake light and working brakes.

Have fluid, haven't checked to see if brake lights are working (related to brake switch? from searching posts). Have a spare pump and accumulator which could look at changing.

What else do I need to start checking/where else could the problem be?

Thanks, in advance.

Thanks, wammers. Will have a look through RAVE.

Also should say had working ABS in the morning but not in the afternoon......

Your sliding around may have shoved a sensor away from the reluctor ring if you have a slightly worn wheel bearing. Sensors must be pushed in until they are touching the reluctor ring. Rotation sets the gap.

If brake lights are staying on then check adjustment of brake switch on the pedal.

Hi Guys,

Not made much progress, as I moved the car from the road on to the drive and I noticed the brake peddle has lots of travel. So rather than start to check the ABS sensors went for the option of changing the ABS power unit as had a spare.

Fairly simple to change but still have the ABS and handbrake light on, also the pump is just running at the moment. But haven't bleed the system properly yet as was out of tube to do any bleeding. But did slacken the banjo off the body to see if it made any difference but it didn't.

Will start to go through it more methodically next weekend, maybe.

In RAVE it talks about clearing fault codes, is this necessary to get the lights to go off or just good practice. I don't have anything I can use to clear codes.

Not sure I have the spare cash but what is recommended:

this:

Or will this do the job:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HAWKEYE-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l9372

Oh and if the sensors have moved and I can push them back down, should I take them out and use new sensor holders:

Sorry for all the questions. Guess I am about to learn about the brake system.

Thanks for any replies.

on the earlier P38 you need to clear the faults with diagnostics, but on the later ones it does a self check on some sytems and if it finds no fault it will turn the lamp out.
