I didn't want the V8 for it's frugality ;)

Still don't know whether to strip it, rebuild it as is, or rebuild it with a diesel.
It's amazing how you have an original idea and how quickly the idea changes......

There are some big asking prices out there but a full restoration is a major undertaking. The engine will be awesome in an mgb, and if it's fit, no need to open it up. I'd run it with the efi, change pump and fuel lines as required

There is some evidence that the higher combustion chamber temperatures generated by LPG can accentuate cylinder liner slippage (caused by the block cracking) that these later RV8's are prone to. There are some that will disagree, but when you've personally experienced the cost of a replacement engine caused by this disaster & seen any savings from running on gas wiped out, to say nothing of the original conversion cost ....

That is certainly a reported factor on the use of LPG on these engines...but the original query was the Engine ECU would throw a wobbler if converted...which it won't...its just the likelihood of a slipped liner or cracked block is increased is all!

I've never heard such reports and tbh saint, can't get my head around it. It is a higher octane so more resistant to knock and burns slower so can run with more advance (16-18 deg btdc) if you bother with a dual fuel timing processor. If you dont , there's a margin of safety (and loss of potential output)

running too lean on the other hand anywhere in the revband.
Seen plenty of s##t conversions.

Bit of an update, managed to remove the boot floor as well as all the outer panels.

The dash and heater matrix are out as well so that I don't set fire to them by accident

Engine is nearly ready to come out as well

Only a suggestion . What about doing full engine and transmission change. Will put a dent in any profit you might be wanting to make but would certainly make things simpler. My '94 is 300tdi ,R380 box and borg warner transfer. I don't know or even care what the 0-60 is ,it pulls like a train and gets me from Barnsley to Beverley in under an hour ( traffic permitting).
The bodywork looks straightforward ,can't really help on panel supplies only ever had to get a replacement bonnet myself ex ebay.

Thanks Chrisrr, I have thought about it, but funds and time are against that.
I've sourced virtually all the panels through the usual suppliers and evilbay, and I've got a lovely sheet of 1.2mm steel of its way for everything else.
Engine runs very sweetly, but leaks oil so I'm going to strip it down and rebuild it. Will do a cylinder leak down test to see if there are any issues with the valves or rings.
It doesn't seem as daunting as it did a couple of weeks back
