Hi all, new to land rovers and started with a 1986 90 hardtop, know it has a 200tdi lift kit and a few other things I am probably clueless on at the moment.

having had it for a day... It's very hot to drive! Appreciate it's a 29 year old, but have any of you used little portable AC units to cool off in them? got both the front grilles open and drivers window down, still sweating like a beast!

guess this could fall under, how do you keep cool?

Also, probably a very noob question but it didn't come with a manual... what is the arrangement of levels on the steering column, left hand lever and 2 right hand levers?

Thanks,

Martin

EDIT:Forgot to add the photo of it!

It's the hottest day in the UK since records began. That'll be why your sweating in your new Landy. Trust me, for most of the year you'll be wearing a scarf, gloves and wooly hat.
2 levers on the right of the steering column? My Landy is only 19 yrs old, maybe they had more 'levers' on the steering column before then.

Good picture, your Landy looks great.

I think the OP is referring to the heater controls.
The one on the left turns the fan on & off. One on the right controls where the air blows from. The other one allegedly controls the temperature but never seems to make much difference!
Try opening the bulkhead vent and the window!

Oh stop kicking up a fuss :p A few hot days in Blighty won't kill you. You should drive my 90 here in Malta. It's a sauna :p (and yet I have lived with it for 12 years).

if you want to LOOK cool, either get some big tyres or standard arches:p

Agreed - looks like someone built it with oversized wheels (therefore the aftermarket arches) then took the big expensive wheels off before sale & replaced them with undersize disco steelies & road tyres.

The paint job looks good. Hope the rest of the rebuild was done to the same standard!

If you think you're hot in a Landrover try taking a 1974 Lotus Elan to Hull & back from Cheshire!

The fact its a van , and got a black roof isnt helping any ! the age has got nothing to do with it . You can be cool if you want to spend nearly as much as the vehicle fitting it with a good aircon system . Looks a tidy vehicle , need to do something about the wheels tho !

Check that the on/off slider actually operates the heater mechanisms.

Paint the roof white, there are also little vents that you can fit in the roof over rear door, they give a little more airflow.

If you are desperate, you could drive around with the rear door off.

Nothing to do with temperature, but the tyres look barely legal!

Sweating is a natural mechanism to cool the body! ;):D

Good vintage that,

Same as mine.

Tbh mines was a sweat box today. Both flaps open , both door tops off and in the tub and the rear window wide to the gunnels.

All air coming in was hot- nothing was gonna help. So i just drove home :)

Ooooh and get sum mudflaps, a defender looks naked without mudflaps :D

Mudflaps??? They're for considerate tratter drivers who don't like chucking mayhoosive clumps of mud at the cars behind you when you pull of a muddy track. No mudflaps for me:5bdriving:

It must have been an off day, been with it for a week or so now, and every other day has been okay!

I prefer it with no flaps also :p

just need to get a set of off road tyres now as my trip at pont Cyfyng was horrendously short :mad:
