Think indicators were optional on 2 models, as was passenger side wiper motor, think 2a was posh and had indies already fitted and wipers wentt to the one motor in the dash.
Early S2 workshop manuals have instructions on how to fit the indicator lamps and the early style dash mounted switch.

Early 2a had the optional indicators as well.
Legislation changed during 2a production, indicators became compulsory.
So Rover changed the steering box and column to one that had a flasher control stalk mounted on it, unlike the older type that you bolted it onto with a clamp.
Mine had plastic ones that were ancient when i got it in 1993 similar to

Afraid I don't know what happened in 1963, I was a foetus!
But I have had quite a few Series, and as far as I can remember, they all had plastic lenses on the little lights. The Sealed Beam units on the headlights were glass.

I have a 63 2a. Indicators were standard with the stalk cancelled by a rubber wheel that rubbed on the steering wheel collar.
All side and indicator lens are plastic [ military had types glass ] A couple of different shapes were were used a plain dome and a stepped dome, mine were stepped. The main difference with the lights is the rear side/brake, larger, square edged and with reflector in the centre, hard to find today, a more rounded version is available at a price.
I recon I can roughly guess the year of early DR Who Daleks by the indicator lamps used on their heads, First ones had glass dome like fitted Morris cars and others at the time, later ones had various dome shapes as seen on Series 2a/3.

Strangely, our 64 has plastic lenses. Although they may be retrofitted.

To much pimms
and spending 6 hours on the roof re-cemmenting ridge tiles is my excuse....Looks much nicer with glass ones than nasty plastic ones though

I am sure the glass ones are nice and original. But I have had lots of Series, and can't remember ever having seen the glass ones.To much pimms

I guess most of the old ones will have had several changes of lights over the years, I have smashed a few lights myself, and people have just fitted plastic.
When I first started driving Series, they were just old junk, you could buy one for a few hundred quid, and just wanted to keep it going.
In the last few years, they have become collectable classics, prices have risen, and all of a sudden people are asking questions about originality.
