And Redhand, judging from your last few comments it's a good job they only look at your age don't test your IQ before they give you a quote

you might be lucky to get classic on a defender, the best bet for a cheap quote is put your mum on the policy, limit the milage as low as possible and if you are brave insure it third party only(dont really reccomend it just incase), putting the mother on took my imreza wrx from 2k down to 1200 quid

Simple statistics...

If you put someone into a vehicle that is more capable of killing a lot of people in cae of an accident you must also be more careful about who you allow to drive it.

17 Year old drivers are likely to have an accident. It is simple... they have less experience in all driving conditions... are less psychologially adapted to using thei wonderful piece of machinery that they are being let loose in.

The answeris to reduce their insurance as they gain experience and go without accident (errr... ok they do this already)

Ok then..what about reducing their insurance if they take extra lessons and gain further qualifications to show that they are good drivers....

(ok they do that too)

So what else? Fact is that it is the youngsters as a group, not as individuals, that have to be assessed. And as a group they are largely suicidal ****wits. The few who are not must change the outlook of the majority who are....

Only then will young people's insurance stand a chance of being more reasonable

Prob can get it on a classic policy...but you dont accrue no claims...so best bet, get a 2nd car, vw polo or similar, insure that as well and after a year he'll have a 1 year NCB and can drive the landy while he's waiting..

Paul I'm Going to, I Have rung up 6 or 7 insurance companies today but at this time of the year revision comes first I'm afraid!

Listen all you wanna be landy drivers at the age of 17, it's not about how old yer vehicle is, or how fast it aint, it's all about the damage you do when ya smash a 2ton vehicle into another, that's the bit that costs.:D:D

Ryder I understand complete what you are saying and I agree that there are many people my age who you wouldn't dream of handing a defender to, all I'm asking is if there is a way of getting round paying obscene amounts of money to legally drive it around all year

im 24 and with 6 years ncb, and im still expected to pay a grand for a defender. when i was 18 they wanted 2k to insure my 1.1l fiesta which cost me £400. go buy yourself a ****y little car for the next few years and save up! will be much easier and cheaper to insure a defender in a few years that way.
