Response to V8bob
Thanks for your interest and offer for info.
It is indeed a V8. Converted to LPG by an earlier owner. With the biggest LPG tank I have ever seen on a vehicle.
It came on non standard sized tyres and looked really daft, like "little foot" with the totally worn out original tyres thrown in the back, when I collected it.
It is ex RAF Regiment, and an ex member colleague did tell me which Squadron it was, from the insignia on the doors.
And I have totally forgotten which one it was! So I will need to chase him again. The previous owner said it was based at an RAF base in north Scotland.
It has only done 42k km, and was manufactured in 1990.
The "Army equipment support publication" it came with, shows it having a bumper winch. But when I bought it, it had no front bumper! Nor any 24V batteries, yet it still has the 24V alternator.
So my first request for info is:
Where could I source an OE bumper? I have tried numerous sources, there are people out there making their own or selling re-manufactured.
But I cannot find anyone selling OE, especially ex MOD. Note I did try Withams Specialist Vehicles.
Same thing applies to bulkhead outriggers. I bought a new one for the RH side, which is Britpart, but once again it is not like the original.
Small differences: The original one has captive nuts to accept mudflaps, and the mounting boss on the original is square, round on the replacement.
Anal I know, but if I would prefer to replace with like for like. I am not even certain whether the original is standard Land Rover, as someone did tell me parts on the military versions are different. Perhaps you could throw some light on that for me. It may be better to use my personal email, rather than bore the good folk on this forum, unless it could be useful, as I feel this conversation could run:
