Thanks guys for your welcome.
As requested here are some pics of the sad old lady.
More to follow, but the latest ones are on my hard drive, which keeps crashing my PC, when I plug it in.
But they only show the chassis up on its outriggers, as I try and clean the underneath.
So not that exciting, as very little progress to date.

Welcome, these are pretty rare beasts. Does it still have the v8 engine?
I have one - keep in touch with your progress and don’t hesitate to ask for any info required.
If you can find the chassis number/military reg number tag I would be interested to know what it has on it?

If stripping to a bare chassis is your idea of "very little progress" ......:D Then it should back in full working order in a few days ;) ...

Good to see another one getting saved.

Watching with interest :)

Thanks for your interest and offer for info.
It is indeed a V8. Converted to LPG by an earlier owner. With the biggest LPG tank I have ever seen on a vehicle.
It came on non standard sized tyres and looked really daft, like "little foot" with the totally worn out original tyres thrown in the back, when I collected it.
It is ex RAF Regiment, and an ex member colleague did tell me which Squadron it was, from the insignia on the doors.
And I have totally forgotten which one it was! So I will need to chase him again. The previous owner said it was based at an RAF base in north Scotland.
It has only done 42k km, and was manufactured in 1990.
The "Army equipment support publication" it came with, shows it having a bumper winch. But when I bought it, it had no front bumper! Nor any 24V batteries, yet it still has the 24V alternator.

So my first request for info is:
Where could I source an OE bumper? I have tried numerous sources, there are people out there making their own or selling re-manufactured.
But I cannot find anyone selling OE, especially ex MOD. Note I did try Withams Specialist Vehicles.
Same thing applies to bulkhead outriggers. I bought a new one for the RH side, which is Britpart, but once again it is not like the original.
Small differences: The original one has captive nuts to accept mudflaps, and the mounting boss on the original is square, round on the replacement.
Anal I know, but if I would prefer to replace with like for like. I am not even certain whether the original is standard Land Rover, as someone did tell me parts on the military versions are different. Perhaps you could throw some light on that for me. It may be better to use my personal email, rather than bore the good folk on this forum, unless it could be useful, as I feel this conversation could run: grahambedford1@hotmail.co.uk

I should had stated: Very little progress in the last few years. It was stripped down to the chassis in 2017!
I then stalled as I thought it needed grit blasting, and I do not have enough friends to lift on a low loader. I also felt guilty about upsetting neighbours with the noise of cleaning it by hand. Then I thought tough. So I have again started cleaning it, starting with the bits that I cleaned years ago, that have again started to corrode, who'd had thought that would happen ?
The chassis is now up-ended and I occasionally move other items around to look like I have progressed things.
So a couple of photos of its current state have been uploaded

Good to see you back at it then :)

OMO, but once you have that chassis structurally sound, I'd suggest you get it galvanised ...

Possibly enough LZer's local to you to give you a hand loading it pre, and unloading post said "zincification" :)

I feel your pain, I have neighbours all around me and I do my best to be considerate towards them during this weldathon but the fact remains, unless I get on and do it, it ain't getting done, they just have to complain to my land lord if they don't like it :p

There are plenty of us around that could rally up for a brew an a butty if you need help lifitng it onto a trailer for galvanising.

Thanks guys for your suggestions/offers of help.
Does anyone know of a one stop shop that shot-blasts/repairs or replaces sections/zinc coats a chassis?
My local zincification applier only has a bath sized for wrought iron gates.
I am already fed up with the black bogies and am getting hooked on Ibuprofen ;)

V8Bob: I did reply to your email, which I found in my Junk folder, so possibly my response is in your Junk folder.

Comrades
A few photos showing the one step forward two back progress. Plus a photo of the tools I made to get in those nooks and crannies, together with some rotary wire brushes that I ordered off the net.
I thought they were cheap! but they will come handy for restoring the Corgi version. Which in all honesty, is what I wish I only had.
I decided against galvanising, as my local LR man, who has changed out nearly 30 chassis in the last four years. Said 90% of them rot from the inside, so it is pointless in galvanising an old chassis.
So out came various rotary brushes and flap discs, cue the black bogies and hey presto a polished chassis in the areas I could get too.
I then hand painted the same last week, and as I had mixed too much of the two part paint, I over coated some of the first coat: Streaks of thick paint and discolouring later. And it looks like I just painted over the rust.
I am now of the opinion to get the painted area returned to bare metal via a grit blasters, who can also do the rest of the chassis, and get the paint sprayed on. And before all that get at least one outrigger replaced.
So here's a repeat question: Does anyone know any companies that will take all that on, including the replacement of the outrigger(s) ?

Have you been over to JSF 4X4? I am sure they could point you in the right direction or if not, DM me a more exact location and I will try and find you a mobile welder who can pop over and knock it out for you, quick smart and in a hurry.

Good call, I will pop into JSF and see if they know where I can get the grit blasting done. I also considered a mobile welder to be the way forward om the outriggers.
Many thanks and merry Christmas

I had a chat with a neighbour who had his 110 chassis galvanised and he was told the same about them rotting from the inside out and when he had it back from galvanising he just waxoyled it once it was Twashed and painted externally, like he said, people are waxoyling old rusty chassis and they're lasting, this will have been jet washed inside and out and sand blasted externally, the whole thing was acid dipped to remove any residues and crud then hot dipped, the waxoyling will have good clean zinc galv to adhere to and an annual application will keep it perfect forever, food for thought.

There are loads of mobile welders around who should be able to come, it's so easy for them as it looks like you have a decent work space and the chassis is bare and easily worked upon.

Keep us posted on what you get up to.

Disagree with your "man" - in that if the chassis is in good condition, then it is worth galvanising. I do agree that a chassis predominantly rots from inside, but, as per this:-

I had a chat with a neighbour who had his 110 chassis galvanised and he was told the same about them rotting from the inside out and when he had it back from galvanising he just waxoyled it once it was Twashed and painted externally, like he said, people are waxoyling old rusty chassis and they're lasting, this will have been jet washed inside and out and sand blasted externally, the whole thing was acid dipped to remove any residues and crud then hot dipped

Exactly - The whole point of hot dip galvanising is that the "item" is blast cleaned AND acid dipped before dipping in molten zinc, so that the zinc flows into every nook and cranny....and stays there as sacrificial protection for the underlying steel ...

the waxoyling will have good clean zinc galv to adhere to and an annual application will keep it perfect forever, food for thought.

Absolutely :) Thought I wouldn't use waxoyl - I suspect DD is using waxoyling to describe a process, rather than the product, which IME is carp - Bilt Hamber and Dinitrol do products at similar price points, which are infinitely superior.

Does anybody know how to remove a repeat photo?
Found it, but that deleted both!
Now re-added............twice.............aarh
