Lumberjack Pad

Just got an 06 reg 110 crew cab after having a 2000 reg 90 td5 pick up. Turbo on 110 seems to be coming in a lot later than the 90. Works fine once its kicked in but takes its time kicking in and having to rev through gears for a fair bit longer. Any ideas??
 
Not got that far yet. I thought opening wastegate would up the power and earlier?? (I'm no mechanic, usually its just a lump hammer!)
 
The wastegate opens once the turbo gets up to pressure and it diverts some of the exhaust gas away from the impellor to limit max boost. If its stuck open or partially open the turbo wont start blowing until the engine is revving at high speed.
