My original 1.8k series blew up and I managed to get hold of a low mileage engine from a lotus Elise series 1, I have fitted the engine but am having problems getting it started, I have checked that all sensors are plugged in but still it wont fire up. I have left the lotus inlet manifold and fuel rail with injectors on the engine, could this be the problem? Any ideas on what to check or try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi guys it is the standard 1.8 not vvc, the reason the guy removed it from his elise was so he could upgrade to a vvc, it has the plastic manifold the same as my old one. The only difference I can see is that the injectors are a different color to the land rover ones.

swap inlet manifolds over, it might make a difference

Have you checked the basics?
Is the fuel pump running
Is there fuel pressure at the rail
Is there a spark
Are the plugs getting wet
Is there a pulse at the injectors
Did you change the timing belt, is the timing correct
Does it crank

Find out why it's not starting and it should point you in the direction you need to look or you're just guessing:)

Finally got it started it was a fuel issue. But now I have a new problem after leaving it overnight it seems to have developed an electrical fault, when I turn the ignition key to the first stage the dash lights come on but when I turn it all the way all the lights go out and nothing happens.

Thanks for the reply the earth on the starter looks a bit dodgy so will sort that out first and see if that sorts it out.
