Done many F1 jobs, but not this one ! So been reading up, looks o.k but why is it necessary to lift the engine and remove the mount? Anyone confirm what it aids access to by doing so?

Also, any tips and shortcuts to make the job easier please?
Lining marks, timing tool etc all seems straight forward. Change tensioner at the same time seems sensible. Water pump, maybe will have a look before changing that.

Brilliant! Sort of thing that is obvious when you've done it, or would become obvious whilst doing it!!

Thanks, other than that any tips? Would you disturb the water pump if it is smooth and free from play?

Worth dropping the engine out, doing the belt and clutch all at once. It's far quicker than you think

Agree with Nodge68, I didn't replaced the water pump and within a month it started to leak (probably as the new belt would be tighter than the old one), so had to repeat most of the process for replacing the belt, just to get to the water pump including unloading/reloading the belt including the timing etc. etc.. For the sake of £30 -£40 its not worth the hassle. Just one thing though, one of the bolts holding the water pump in place is fitted from behind the pump, the rest are accessible from the front of the pump. The one round the back is a bit of a bugger to get at......
