Went to start my v8 today, key in ignition turn to the light come on and get noise coming from behind where the radio is. Engine won't turn over either. Does it sound like a spider fault???

If that sound is coming from the spider it ‘s very, very strange. But there is a cause so maybe there’s an earth issue.
I assume your engine won’t turn over either .

Nope, engine won't turn over. I put my hand in the hole where the radio was, and there's what feels like a box shaped thing thats making the noise / vibrating when I touch it.

"hello relay"
"hello power"
"why arent you working"
"because I dont want to latch on"
"whys that?"
"insufficient volts, low battery, poor earth"
"which one?"
"i dont know, I aint pro-active, I just respond to a current, except in this case, I am not"
"where are you?"
"hiding ;)"

that sort of thing :D

I’ve never been there but I understand that the spider can be seen below the radio housing with a ‘mirror on a stick’ and a touch, also that they have managed to unplug the spider and pull the plug up into the housing and then bridged the two spider circuits.
You could enter your security code to temporarily isolate the spider, or install two pieces of wire permanently from the vehicles fuse board which is very simple, no need to remove the radio or pull the dashboard apart.. but you won’t have an immobiliser.

An indication that the spider is going faulty is intermittent starting issues as mine had, and then finally with the engine cutting out at 50mph, a single piece of wire got me going again in five minutes, now the wire is installed properly the spider still looks after the isolation of the starter circuit, but only that..

I've had a look at the wiring diagram for the Spider E103 is its ground which is located somewhere near the nearside rear of the engine bay, as good a place to start as any I think???

There is a major earthing point behind each of the drivers and passengers footwell kick panel. Normally there is no need to go there.

Well, just had a quick snoop around the back of the engine & reached down the back where the gearbox is........Found the bloody earth wire that I'd disconnected whist dismantling the top of the engine :rolleyes::rolleyes: Give it a clean and fastened it to the body & Hey-presto it now turns over!!!!

Now got oil pressure so can finish the re-build and put all the ancillaries back :D
