Picked this up today. Engine misfiring, but everything else looks good. EAS sort of works, but car doesn't sit level. ABS may need looking at as well.

Also some of the door locks aren't working properly, but I know how to fix those, and have some spare parts indoors.

Read the faults on Nanocom this evening. Too dark to look further tonight.

• GEMS Engine:
  • P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Fault. Strange that the engine runs (but badly) with this fault. I thought cam sensor stopped it running ?
  • Cleared the code, but it comes straight back.
• Wabco ABS:
  • Normal wheel rotation on all 4 wheels (why is this logged as fault ?)
• Airbag SPS2:
  • Passenger airbag open circuit.
• EAS:
  • No faults, except the usual "invalid fault"
  • Levelling after ignition off mod will be installed after I fix all the other stuff.
  • Works ok manually in all heights, but calibration seems wrong, because car leans to right.
• HEVAC:
  • No faults or book symbol
  • Fan knob stiff to turn, but auto works.
• BECM:
  • Fuel gauge fault. Need to check the sender voltage, but test mode doesn't work.
  • Other gauges are fine.
  • Reports electric memory seats, but the seats are manual with heaters. At least I now know the BECM supports memory seats. Connectors are present on BECM, but loom is missing.
• Doors:
  • RH Rear is only one working correctly.
  • All others need lock motors & microswitches checking or replacing.

According to RAVE, it look like two potential causes for P0340 can sensor error.

NOTE: It is physically possible to
interchange the camshaft gear wheel fitted
to pre-99MY and post-99MY vehicles.
However, because the GEMS and Motronic
systems are incompatible, an incorrect camshaft
signal will be received by the ECM and a P0340
fault code will result.

Does anyone know if the gear wheel is visible through the cam sensor hole ? or do I need to buy a sensor just to try it ?

Don't know but the ABS "fault" is normal.

Don't be so sure about the memory seats. Is it a highline or lowline BECM? Front fogs loom and settings and everything was there on my lowline, apart from the actual FETs on the BECM powerboard to tell them to switch on!

Still gotta check actual BECM version on cover & boards. Couldn't find it in Nanocom, but C907 is definitely present. Would they fit the connector and not the FET's ?

Camshaft Sensor update. Checked with oscilloscope, and no output from sensor. Somebody has added a 6" section of wiring, and connected the sensor using spade terminals, which are all oily and intermittent. Wiggled the connectors, and the sensor fault cleared OK, so could be 12V, GND or Signal wires. Interestingly the GEMS ECU still sends a square waveform to the BECM, even though the sensor had no output.

Also found the PRINS LPG is using the RPM feed from GEMS to BECM rather than the Cam sensor, so this gets the GEMS default similar to the BECM.

Now the engine revs nicely, but still idles rough. Rain stopped play for today.

I don't think the GEMS engine is ever quite 100% smooth on LPG. MrGorsky is round the corner from you and runs a GEMS on LPG. Could pop round and compare?

AFAIK it's currently on petrol mode. Little gauge shows LPG empty.

I'm going to do compression checks, plugs, clean MAF, Plenum & throttle body before I start blaming LPG.

Did you reset the trims? Sometimes takes a while to settle down, especially if it has been running rough.

Looks nice, specially the interior. But it's not nice to see that the Rover is standing on the road with someone else's wheel.

Left side O2 sensor not connected. The multiplug is actually missing from the wires, but the loom connector is hanging there. !! Right O2 very sooty, so looks like engine running far too rich. Spark plugs are all sooty as well. No signs of water on plugs, which is good. Also ran the engine for 20mins yesterday, but it only gets to 54degC according to Nanocom. Wondering whether there's a thermostat fitted.

Doing compression checks next, but rain stopped play again. Bank 2-4-6-8 is nightmare to get to, because of the LPG plumbing.
