After buying a winch cutting and shutting my bumper with a mount from gwyn Lewis its a very close up snug fit,

Nice set up, but a tad too close to the rad, in my opinion.

Not much room for error if the bumper takes a heavy knock off road, neither is there much exposure left for air flow to the rad. Not a problem this time of the year but may prove a problem in the summer months.

but wont that increase the chances of bending either the bumper mounts or the chassis dumb irons during steep ascents?

inch and a half wont make much difference plus will give him a little safety from rad puncture in a shunt!

would think it'll be fine if its a bottom and top mount he has, just make a couple of 6mm spacers to extend it forwards a little is what I'd do

fair enough, i was thinking you meant about 4 inches further forward

noo inch and a half is nearly 4cm so will give a little less restriction on air to rad and means the bumper has to be pushed back a little further to hit the rad!

naa parents are out, i got me a few tinnies and a drinks globe with whiskey in it, im sorted :D

bastid :p well as I've been up since early and fecking about with a heavy lump of metal slung over my shoulder all day I'm off to bed :D

back to it tomorrow with an angle grinder ;)

If I'm going to move anything it will be the rad back as I want it as tight up to the front as possible.
