Well I've tried loads of different things today and got nowhere, so I'm going to order a new radiator and an OE water pump and hopefully that will sort things out.

I'll report back when I know more,

Well just to sign this thread off, I ordered a new radiator from Paddocks and it came friday lunchtime, was in friday night and has been tested today.

All appear to be stable and fine.

So James, it was as you suggested, a crapped-up radiator.

Ok Wendy used the 110 for the first time since repair and guess what? It overheated again !!!!!!

Just to repeat: new rad, new water pump, new thermostat, new pipes, all waterways flushed.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be, except for a blown head gasket (cos I know that possibility already

Is the by-pass valve the round black plastic thing that has two small bore pipes going in and one going out,to the header tank?


Any suggestions how I would test it. Incidently there is no heat at all in the rad or the header tank????? Part no. PCH117840?

The by-pass valve as I understand it, is a one way valve which allows the purging of air and coolant. The coolant should be able to travel from the rad and the stat housing, via the valve back to the header.

On mine I couldn't blow through in that direction but I could blow through in the opposite direction which I think and according to rave, is wrong. I've just ordered a replacement part.

While I was about it I removed the new stat to check it in boiling water - awaiting the results but it looks like it's not going to open.


So it didn't open so that means the new stat that I bought and put in is contributing to the problem. Will now have to wait for new by-pass pipe and stat.

Today I fitted new thermostat and new by-pass pipe set.

Topped up coolant and went for a long and hilly drive and guess what?


She didn't overheat !!!! - Wife is now happy - for a while at least.

Wendy has gone off in the 110, so I hope all goes well.
The weather here is perfect so I'm off out on my bike and I might just swing by to see her and check that all is good :tea:
