Apologies for this question from a non mechanical person but I am having issues with my Series III.
The landy starts but when I release the ignition key the engine cuts out.
If I hold the key on, the engine will run and can be revved but as soon as key is released the engine dies.
I'm thinking it may be the coil that needs replaced ------ am I thinking along the correct lines??
I would welcome any and all advice and guidance.
Thanks

It was starting and running fine in the morning but when I went to start it in the afternoon we encountered the aforementioned problem.
So you reckon it could be the ignition switch rather than the coil?

Sounds like the switch, they are cheap enough, fit on to the end of the ignition barrel with 2 little screws from memory. Petrol and diesel are different, make a note of which wire goes where, one may have even fell off.

I would aim at the switch, If its starts on pos 3 but dosent run in pos 2. quick check is to see if you have 12v at the coil in position 2 then check back at the switch. it could be a broken wire.

Marjon,
Thanks for that, it was indeed a loose wire at the switch, sorted and landy now back and running.
I have to say, contrary to what others stated, it was not the easiest of tasks and I dread to think what it would have been like had I had to renew the switch should it have been faulty.

Flossie,
Thanks, it was indeed a loose wire on the switch ---- not an easy job to get at, but all sorted now and landy back up and running.
