    Distributor base plate

Me again, While messing around with my distributor I noticed a crack in the base plate. These seem surprisingly expensive to buy second hand, presumably they are NLA. The crack is at the lower end of the tube where the inner drive shaft exits. It runs about half way up the tube but not as...

New electronic dizzy - no spark

Ha! Thanks for that warning! I got a pretty sharp jolt since last posting so I guess that means the coil is working! That'll teach me to hold the HT lead near the plug! I looked again at the seating of the dizzy and the lugs are offset slightly so it looks like it can only go in one way...

New electronic dizzy - no spark

Thanks Kermit, So it should be possible to fit the dizzy both ways - mine won't seat when turned. This design of electronic dizzy has two wires coming from it, a red that goes to positive terminal and a black that goes to negative. And the advice on SimonBBCs site suggests that the system...

New electronic dizzy - no spark

Happy Saturday all, Mine's not so happy. I have been having running problems with my '75 2.3 petrol. It would run well for a while but then die when it got hot. It would then be fine again when it had been sitting for a while. As per advice on here I tried a new condenser but that made no...

    Poor running when warmed up

Oh I know, just thinking ahead to which engine to rebuild first! The landy's oil pressure light comes on very briefly when I stop at lights but my Spitfire's oil pressure has been marginal for 40 years. I'd love to get stuck into one of them but between day job and having just bought an old...

    Poor running when warmed up

I'm only 10 years from retirement...soo many things to check when I get there...!

    Poor running when warmed up

Thanks gents, could be a cheap fix then. Not sure exactly where I read about the valve seat issue. I had a quick browse there and there are clearly plenty of opinions on whether it is a thing or not. I'm now using two additives per fill, one for lead, one for ethanol. Cheers, Al

    Poor running when warmed up

Happy New Year to all, It's been a while since I was on here. My '75 SIII (Lenny) has had little use for a couple of years since we were renting in town. Now back in our own place in the country and Lenny is back at work lugging trailer fulls of wood, etc. I've not done much other than an...

No fuel or temperature gauges & no instrument lighting

Thanks all. Shame I have to go to work in the morning - I now want to keep tinkering with the Landy!

    Reversing light on '75 SWB

Many thanks, I think I'll wire up an LED light on a toggle switch for the mo and then look into the gearbox switch in the spring. Cheers, Al

No fuel or temperature gauges & no instrument lighting

OK, thanks all. I'll start with the stabiliser. I see some bloke in Devon makes solid state ones - tempted to fit one anyway to replace the 50's tech that's in there at the mo. Just need to work out the simplest way of getting the speedo out - presumably those big slot headed bolts at either...

No fuel or temperature gauges & no instrument lighting

Yep, there is a dash lighting switch which isn't switching on the dash lighting. Good place to start I guess, to check power and earth. Earth problem could be root cause of all this but probably means taking the pod apart? How easy is it to pop out a gauge? Al

No fuel or temperature gauges & no instrument lighting

Me again, On the subject of usability and winter driving, for some reason my fuel and temp gauges and my instrument lighting have all stopped working. I have warning lights for choke, engine oil pressure and full beam on the dials. I've checked fuses and they all seem OK. I fitted a new fuel...

    Reversing light on '75 SWB

Hey all, A very belated HNY to you all. As you can guess from my posts, I go through phases of using my SIII. It worked hard in the spring of last year when I moved house but hasn't been doing much lately. Then, because it snowed briefly a while ago, I thought I'd better make sure it's in...

    Preparing landy for billing

Mine doesn't look any different when I wash it...so I think I only did that once just after I got it! What's that setup you have on your sills? Is there something strong under those sill finishers? Al.
