Modifying the chassis to take a EV motor would be a modification which would cause Q plate.

Nahh you dont.... Folk just take the gearbox out for the fun of it once the clutch is done....and they have time to kill.
All joking aside... some things suck and this is one of them.
I was pleasantly surprised as recently ball parked 330 quid for a screen wash motor as its a pig to get to, wheel off, wing off... pleasantly surprised to see £56 quid as it was just those hose came off.... Not sure many garages would come in...
Agree...... its ok to look at the workshop manual with the "simply remove the two bolts, release then refit in reverse order", but on a 30 year old car...
