FL 2 - Memory Seat Module Issue

Hi everyone,

I'm a proud owner of a Freelander 2 HSE LUX 2013 model which I absolutely love. Unfortunately the driver's seat memory module was missing upon purchase. I called Land Rover main dealer and found out the correct part number for the seat module of my vehicle 'LR041896' and the engineering number is 'DJ32 14D600 AA'.

I purchased a second hand memory module on ebay with 'almost' the same engineering number 'BJ32 14D600 AF'. After installing, all the buttons including memory settings seem to work but only in small increments?! I am not sure if this due to the part numbers differing ever so slightly?

I called main dealers for a new module and they quoted me £203 + £210 to program!!!! I assumed it would simply be a plug and play but apparently not....

Has anyone else came across the same issue as me? I would really appreciate any help or guidance at this stage.

Almost nothing on a modern electronically controlled vehicle is plug n play, except things like bulbs and fuses.

I expect the replacement seat module will need to be configured to the vehicle, it might not even be possible to configure a second hand module to the vehicle, unless it's memory is erasable in the configuration process.
It would be worth a go though, as LR often say that second hand modules can't be reconfigured to a different vehicle, but I did it with my ECM, which LR say is impossible, but SDD (LRs diagnostic software), did it without any fuss, so I can't see why a simple seat module wouldn't reconfigure just fine.
£210 for doing a module change is a mickey take, as it's probably no more than 30 minutes on the machine.

Thanks for your reply buddy. Would a diagnostic tool like Autel AP200 do the same as I don't have SDD software :s
 
When your FL2 is stationary and you ask it to move the seat to one of the 3 stored memory settings, it will do so with one press and release of the appropriate number button. 1, 2 or 3.

If you do the above while driving you have to press and hold the appropriate number button. Reason being it will only move the seat for the duration the button is held, when driving. It's a safety feature to stop you moving the seat to a position which is dangerous for you to be sat in, while driving. Like short people moving the seat too far away from the pedal.

If yours works as above then it's ok.

There shouldn't be any programming required. Where items like memory seat controllers have firmware in them, it's put in during manufacture of the device. If you buy one new or second hand, it's unlikely to need programming. They're not encrypted, password protected or hard coded to the vehicle. There's a lot of myths about programming electronics in cars. FL2's are clever in that they can self repair themselves to a certain extent, when new parts are fitted. It normally takes up to two drive cycles to do this. It's different when you do things like changing lights from halogen to xenon. You need an external programming device as part of the change to carry out a ccf update (car config file) and other stuff appropriate to the specific change you're making.

I don't know why the main dealer has quoted for programming. They may do so on the basis they need to test any part they fit, and program if necessary. Listing the max potential price if it were to go that far, but not invoicing it if the garage don't do it.
