Sorry guys noise is coming from the actual engine, the noise goes when accelerate but when it's held at a constant speed it comes back

Hey every1 noticed recently my disco has started to become really loud, it's fine on tick over and when revved freely but when I'm driving its sound like a tractor like a knocking noise, can hear it when accelerating but can hear it even louder when travelling at constant speed say just cruising...

Some new info, just spoke to my mate who's land rover it is, he said also when he was trying to get up hills only the front wheels were turning and the backs weren't so it was sort of in 2 wheel drive, would this be the transfer box?

Hi everyone posting this on behalf of a friend, he's got a L reg disco 300tdi manual, basically he went to cowm quarry pay and play end of last month, had a great day out but the landy developed a clicking noise from the front drivers side wheel he carried on for an hour or so but started going...

alty is spot on then mate, as the other guys have said check battery connections are all in good order and tight and check all earths, had an electrical nightmare myself recently so i no exacly how you feel mate

Get a multi meter on the battery when running sounds like alternator to me should be returning around 14 volts when running

Quick update SHE'S ALIVEEE!!! Turns out the alternator was seized, strange really because it turned over by hand fine ( must be stronger than I thought lol) made the mrs try turn it over today while I had a look around and noticed the alto wasn't turning whipped the aux belt off and boom turned...

yes theres plenty of antifreeze in it made sure of that before it was parked up, i was thinkin the same that something had siezed but iv turned it over with a socket and ratchet and everything is fine turns over ok.

cheers guys uv all been alot of help and gavce me some ideas, i spoke to a mate of mine today whos got a td5 disco and he said he had exacly the same problem and it was the tank fuel pump, i no there different engines but its worth a try, ill keep you all updated when i have another play around...

engines fine mate i cranked it over by a socket on the crank pulley was the first thing i tested to make sure it wasnt seized, when i try to bump it is just turns over but wont fire mate

Quick update, had a volt meter on it today and the volts at the battery are 12.3 to 12.6 then when I crack it its dropping to 5 so all the power is getting zapped out of it, could the starter be goosed even tho it still slowly turns it over?

well guys after charging the battery again for 2 whole days and putting a jump cable from the negative side of the battery to the engine and a clean piece of metal on the chassis still the side turns over very slowely bout 4 times then stops then have to turn the key off and do it again and it...

i havent turned it over by hand no mate but the motor does turn it over a couple of times just really slowly, all i can describe it as is its like the battery is flat and struggles to turn the engine over but its fully charged :confused:
