My Disco 2 V8 is exactly the same, has "P" for the engine code

That's a bit like worrying about the poisonous fumes given off when rubber hoses burn. If you've got petrol or oil spraying around in your engine bay, you've got bigger problems to worry about than silicone hoses getting erroded
